DARNOLD REPRESENTS BUT UNDISCIPLINED “D” COMES UP SHORT

On Saturday, the New York Jets faced off with the Houston Texans for a primetime matchup at MetLife Stadium. Going into the game, many fans expected a blowout due to the Texans superior 9-4 record compared to the Jets dismal 4-9. However, the Jets put up a huge fight and only lost by a score of 29-22.

QB Sam Darnold had one of his best games of the season completing 24 out of 38 passes for 253 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions. As a matter of fact, with about 5 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, the Jets had a 22-19 lead and the stadium was shaking. However, as with many times this season the Jets had another 4th quarter collapse.

On the ensuing Texans drive, CB Morris Claiborne got a deadly holding call on 3rd down while covering wide-out DeAndre Hopkins. Had it not been for the flag, the Jets would have got the ball back and possibly could have run the clock out and won the game. But no, this kept hope alive for Houston and they were able to cash in for the go-ahead touchdown, breaking many Jets fans hearts. During the next drive, Darnold tried to rally the troops for potentially another game-winning drive. Unfortunately, both Anderson and Kearse could not come up with the ball to keep the chains moving. Not to mention, the play calling once again seemed to be very conservative from Bowles and Bates especially with running the ball on 2nd and 14 and later on the final 4th and 18…. don’t even get me started.

For the remainder of the season, they should let Darnold be more aggressive and take more shots down the field to not only switch up the play calling but to let him air it out deep. The good news is that the future looks very bright for the Jets with Darnold as he continues to show promise game after game. Don’t worry Jets fans…with the way Darnold played yesterday and last week, your team could be a possible contender as soon as next year.
