THE END IS HERE…AT LEAST FOR BOWLES

Well Jets fans, you made it through another disappointing season. I have to give credit when credit is due. Today the New York Jets traveled to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots for the second time this season. The previous matchup did not go well at all as the Jets lost 27-13. As one could imagine, today was significantly worse as they lost 38-3. The Jets probably played their worst game of the season. They were bad in every aspect of the game.

QB Sam Darnold played like a rookie today and did not live up to the franchise quarterback that we saw during the past three weeks. He completed 16 of 28 passes for 167 yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions and one forced fumble returned for a touchdown. As a matter of fact, the Jets fumbled the ball three times today. In addition, the Jets have not scored a touchdown in New England since October of 2015. Overall, the whole squad including both the offense and defense played as if they just wanted their season to be over.

The good news is that Todd Bowles is likely to be fired as soon as tomorrow. He had his worst season this year as the Jets head coach finishing at 4-12. His overall record is a horrendous 24-40 with a .375 winning percentage. Moving forward, the Jets need to find a disciplined coach with more aggressive play calling, better clock management, and the ability to finish games in which they have the lead. Yesterday, the Jets interviewed Mike McCarthy as a potential candidate for their next head coach. He would be a great fit for the Jets because he would be able to fill in the gaps in which Bowles struggled mightily.

In terms of contract agreements, Quincy Enunwa and the Jets just agreed on a 4-year contract worth up to $36 million with $20 million guaranteed. Both Enunwa and Darnold have developed a lot of chemistry this season and hope to continue heading into next year. Now they need to focus on other players on the roster including Robby Anderson, Jermaine Kearse, Bilal Powell, Morris Claiborne, and Buster Skrine. Next year will bring a new season full of hope and promise. If the Jets hire a competent coach, tie up their contractual obligations along with keeping everyone healthy, they could possibly be in the hunt for a wildcard next year. Keep being hopeful Jets fans…out with the old and in with the new. With continued development from Darnold, they will go a long way. Until next year. J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!
