JETS END PRESEASON WITH SHUTOUT…NOW THE REAL FUN BEGINS

On Thursday night, the New York Jets hosted the Philadelphia Eagles in the final game of the 2019 Preseason. The Jets were able to hold on for a 6-0 victory to finish the preseason at 2-2. Once again, the final score is secondary because preseason is all about figuring out which players have the grit to play on the 53-man roster. While a majority of the Jets starters did not play, there were many positives and negatives to be taken into account.
First of all, the defense played solid ensuring a shutout. It takes a lot of pride and passion on both sides of the ball to keep the opponent off the scoreboard. In addition, LB Blake Cashman out of the University of Minnesota showed he belongs by forcing critical turnovers. Also, on the offensive side, former Australian Rugby player Valentine Holmes shined as well. The story behind Holmes’ and Cashman's road to NFL players are truly some of the best. If you do not know their history, please watch episode 5 of One Jets Drive, as it features both of their stories in depth. To watch that, CLICK HERE-->  One Jets Drive Episode 5
In last night’s game, Holmes made 5 catches for 55 yards. This goes to show that he is on track to becoming a tremendous football player as he enters the next chapter in his life.
Usually, with multiple positives come some negatives. Third string QB Davis Webb has continued to be horrendous by making inaccurate passes or throwing interceptions as was the case twice last night. If for some reason the Jets need to rely on a third string quarterback, they would be wise to search elsewhere.
Now for the biggest problem, the kicking game. Even though the Jets were victorious on Thursday, they should have won by a lot more. Jets Kicker Taylor Bertolet was 2 for 5 on his field goal attempts, which is downright awful. Moving forward, these missed extra points could be the difference between a win or loss. GM Joe Douglas must act now to remedy this dire kicking situation.
Next week, with the start of the regular season we can only hope the starters will be ready to go. The Jets will host the Buffalo Bills at 1 PM on CBS with Kevin Harlan and Rich Gannon calling the game. For those going to the game, it is the annual Green Out. Get excited Jets fans…the countdown begins….. J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!
