JETS STILL CANNOT STOP HATED PATS IN FOXBOROUGH

Yesterday, the New York Jets took on the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. The Jets lost 30-14. It seemed as though on every Patriot possession, they scored points while the inept Jets offense went three and out basically on every drive. This was a recipe for disaster. They are lucky they didn’t lose 100-0. The final score was 30-14 but again no credit should be given to the offense.

Jets QB Luke Falk completed 12 of 22 passes for only 98 yards, no touchdowns, and 1 interception. Therefore, they had to overwork Bell who was unprotected by an atrocious offensive line that cannot block anyone. Also, the play calling by Adam Gase was extremely conservative. He is supposed to be this offensive guru but they were barely able to move the ball past midfield. The Jets barely threw beyond the 1st down marker. In addition, the constant pressure by the Patriots defense often set up 3rd and long for their staggering offense.

The defense played well enough to only allow Brady and Company to score 30 points. It could have been much worse. Unfortunately, CB Darryl Roberts still showed that he cannot cover anybody while Leonard Williams has been a non-factor except for committing penalties. On a positive note, Jamal Adams continues to show the willingness to not give up by returning an interception 61 yards for the Jets second and final touchdown of the day. However, no one was able to get to Brady all day.

Overall, the offense sucked, the defense was average, but the special teams continued to shine. Special Teams Coach Brant Boyer should be given a lot of credit for the amount of impact plays his players are able to make. For example, when the Patriots muffed a punt, the Jets brilliant special teams were able to hustle down to the goal line and score a touchdown. This also broke a streak of not scoring a touchdown at Gillette since October 2015.

Moving forward, the good news is that the Jets have their bye week next week where they can hopefully turn things around quickly before they get even worse. In addition, Darnold will likely be back for the Week 5 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial. Don’t worry Jets fans…Darnold, Bell and the rest of the offense will get it together and find ways to win games in the near future.
