Jets Vs Patriots Preview

As week 3 approaches us, the deadly Jets matchup sadly approaches us as well. Fellow Jets fans refer to this game as "the trap" game and It sadly may never be an easy game. The Jets travel to Foxborough today to make a visit to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. The Jets will also be going with Luke Falk as their starter this week after Trevor Siemian ripped up his ankle in last weeks abysmal Monday Night Football performance in a 23-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

The Jets face lots of adversity today as they already are working on a 3rd string QB in Falk, but also playing in New England, where they haven't won since the 2010 divisional round of the playoffs back when the Jets were a top team under Rex Ryan (Sexy Rexy). According to Falk's college coach at Washington State Mike Leach, he's "a good game manager." He "knows all the tricks"(NY POST). Although Falk has lots of praise from his success in College Football, this daunting task of stopping the Patriots certainly won't be an easy one. Le'veon Bell could be the guy to solve this task.

The Jets defensively will be most likely without DT Quenin Williams and LB CJ Mosley again as well as definitely without LB Jordan Jenkins which serves as a major blow. Once again, I mentioned Neville Hewitt last week and I say him again. He has a big role for the Jets defense this week. He must pull his end of the deal in order to see some defensive success. Brady is a threat when throwing the ball, so the Jets must come prepared, and Gregg Williams' blitz plays that he loves to run could be necessary to avoid a major New England Meltdown. Also, after all the weird controversy with Jamal Adams deleting the Jets from his Instagram and Twitter Bio's after last week's game, It makes us question how committed he really is to being a captain of this Jets defense. Does he even want to be a member of Gang Green anymore? Has his mindset changed based on what has been going on around the league? I guess we may never know until he does something or if nothing happens at all.

As for the Patriots, without a doubt, the ageless and hated Tom Brady plays QB as most know. They had recently acquired Antonio Brown and he would've been one of my X-Factors today if it weren't for him being released on Friday due to his sexual assault allegations.  Instead, the Patriots love to use Sony Michel in the backfield along with James White as well, who serve strong as their one-two punch. The three Main receivers with AB no longer a member are Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon, and Phillip Dorsett. Although Gordon and Edelman are the more dangerous receivers, Brady is never afraid to use Dorsett either, especially in the Red Zone. In week 1 against Pittsburgh, He had a 58 yard catch and scored 2 TDs. He's quiet but effective, so guys like CB's Daryl Roberts, Brian Poole, and Trumaine Johnson must address this issue and expose this part of the Patriots offense in order to win.

So for some basic keys to the game today, being that Sam Darnold is out yet again with Mononucleosis and Siemian is out for the season with an ankle injury, will Luke Falk be able to step up in the big time for the Jets as the Jets look to avoid staying winless? It's going to take a great effort from him, but many Jets QBs have not had much success with this team in the past. Falk showed signs of life later in last weeks Browns game, but will that be enough to do the same against New England? Probably not, so he will need to play a huge role and serve as a leader to the Jets offense, and the offensive line can help by blocking well for him today as well. Le'veon Bell must be utilized a lot today too and also will serve as a leader on the offensive half.

My last key to the game today is how long the Jets defense does stay on the field and how much it is going to take for them to surrender today in Foxborough? Ultimately the Jets defense was on the field more than the offense was last week, and that gave the Jets many issues, and tiredness started to build up. It was within reason, considering that they were basically playing majority of the game and not getting much help from the offense. This downward trend must come to an end today in order to see this game be a little more interesting.

As for my prediction, the Jets are put into a tough situation, not having their starting QB in Sam Darnold and playing what might very well be the toughest road game of the season. I cannot say I see the Jets making it out alive, and I hate to be a stickler here, but New England has the winning mentality the Jets haven't had, and they have home field advantage big time. It's sad to say, but Give me New England winning this one 35-7.
