THE DREAM IS STILL ALIVE

Today, the New York Jets took on the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field. The Jets were able to pick up their second victory in a row as they beat the Redskins 34-17. The whole team appeared to be in rhythm and was able to capitalize on Washington’s miscues or as one may say “rookie mistakes”. This is just what they did to Redskins rookie QB Dwayne Haskins.
Jets QB Sam Darnold had one of his best games so far in the NFL. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 293 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception. This was also the first time that Darnold threw 4 touchdown passes. The only bad decision he had was when he threw the lone interception, which resulted in only 3 points for Washington.
The Redskins are now a team that is in a similar position that the Jets were in a year ago. They both had a high-drafted rookie QB with enormous potential but just couldn’t put all of the pieces together. This isn’t saying that the Jets suddenly are as good as the Patriots, Chiefs, 49ers, or Seahawks but are more likely to make the playoffs in the next couple of years as opposed to the Redskins.
It is crazy how quickly the tables have turned. Just two Fridays ago, angry fans were flying “Fire Adam Gase” banners all over New York City. This was similar to flying “Idzik Must Go” 4 years ago during an actual game at MetLife Stadium. Now Jets HC Adam Gase has won two games in a row and his team isn’t dead yet. However, this is just one small step in the right direction and there is still a great amount of work for Darnold, Gase, RB Le'veon Bell and Co. to do before the end of the season.

Next week, the Jets will return home to take on the Oakland Raiders. It will be Star Wars Bobble Head Day. While the Raiders possess a great threat to this young Jets team, it is never easy for a West Coast team to make a trip to the East Coast. In that category, the Jets have the advantage. But in order to emerge victorious, they will need to play a disciplined game for all 4 quarters, even better than what they had in store for today. Also, they cannot ride too high over their victory today. They will need to be able to turn the page quickly and focus on next week. Get excited Jets fans…next week could present a marquee matchup. J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!
