TICK TOCK GASE IS ON THE CLOCK

On Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Jets were 0-2 heading into this game in desperate need of a win. They ended up getting blown out 36-7. Today’s game was one to quickly forget. They are now 0-3 on the young 2020 season and searching for many answers as to how they will start to win games.

Heading into last week, many Jets fans organized a protest to get HC Adam Gase fired by showing up at training facilities in Florham Park trying to make their voices heard by the front office. However, it was very unsuccessful as only a few fans showed up. In addition, the Jets today played with no spark or desire to win and just as if they wanted their head coach fired.

In today’s game, QB Sam Darnold completed 17 of 29 passes for just 168 yards, 1 touchdown, and 3 interceptions. One of the most alarming factors was that 2 of Darnold’s interceptions were pick sixes. This in turn led to 14 points for the Colts. If Darnold really is the franchise quarterback the Jets think he is, by no means should he be throwing 3 picks a game. His stats so far for this season are 3 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. HC Adam Gase is supposed to be this offensive guru and yet his team has failed to score more than 17 points per game. Not to mention, the play calling still does not allow Darnold to throw the ball deep downfield but to throw screen passes that result in little to no gain of yardage and sometimes negative yardage.

In terms of the defense, they allowed a season high 36 points today, but 14 of the 36 points were off interceptions. Colts QB Phillip Rivers who is usually prone to interceptions did not throw any today. As a matter of fact, the Jets defense was unable to get any pressure on Rivers this afternoon. This is a recipe for disaster. When your quarterback throws 3 interceptions and your defense is not able to apply any pressure, it is next to impossible to win games in the NFL. Penalties were also a major issue in this game even when it was clear the Jets were not going to win. Today, the entire team quit on their coach and showed no discipline on the football field.

Next week, the Jets will travel back to MetLife Stadium to take on the Denver Broncos for a Thursday night matchup. For the Jets to have a chance in this game, Darnold cannot be a source of turnovers, penalties cannot be committed, and the defense needs to be able to rattle Broncos QB Jeff Driskel. In a season where the Jets are already 0-3, this looks like the game that the Jets might finally win. Don’t worry Jets fans...it is very likely Gase will be fired by the end of the season and that you will win some games along the way.
