SAM OLD JETS

On Sunday,  the New York Jets took on the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium. The Jets were able to get off to a fast start by taking a 10-0 lead. Unfortunately, the Same Old Jets appeared late in the second quarter and Buffalo went on to score 18 unanswered points. To make matters worse, the Jets never made it past midfield in the second half as they fell to 0-7 on a dreary, overcast afternoon at the Meadowlands.

The Jets offense was extremely inept. Yes, they scored 10 more points than they did last week but that is not nearly enough to beat anybody in the NFL. QB Sam Darnold returned from his shoulder injury and had a good first half but an absolutely abysmal second half. Darnold completed 12 of 23 passes for 120 yards, no touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Just before halftime, the Jets had the ball with a 10-3 lead hoping to build off of it when Darnold threw his first interception of the game giving the Bills the ball back before the half. This would result in points, but for the Bills making it 10-6. All throughout the second half, the Jets only managed under 30 yards of offense. This is a recipe for disaster. Even though Gase did not call the offense today, his coordinator Dowell Loggains still did not have what it takes to run an effective offense for all four quarters.

Despite some ineptitude from the offense, the defense played fairly well. While they allowed Bills QB Josh Allen to march down the field with ease, they buckled down in the red zone. This resulted in six field goals for the Buffalo offense. It is pretty pathetic that the Jets did not allow Buffalo to score any touchdowns but still found a way to lose the game. The defense kept the Jets in the game and they had an opportunity to go tie the game and force overtime but Darnold threw his second interception of the day and this ceased any thoughts of a potential comeback.

Next week, the Jets will travel to Kansas City to play the Chiefs. This could very well be the most difficult game on the Jets schedule. Personally, I do not see any way that they could win this football game and it doesn’t matter who will be in charge of the play calling. In order for them to even have a chance, the offense will need to score 30+ points (something the Jets have not done yet this season), the defense will need to play like they did today, Darnold cannot be a source of interceptions like Fitzpatrick was four years ago, and most importantly they cannot commit penalties or continue to beat themselves like they have done the past seven weeks. Jets fans...anything’s possible
