NO SILVER LINING TO BE FOUND FOR GANG GREEN

On Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Denver Broncos out in the Mile High City. Nothing good came out of this game for the Jets as they were blown out 26-0. This was the second time in a row that the Jets were shutout while playing out in Denver. It happened last in 2017 but that Jets team still had something to play for in early December. It seems very unlikely that the 2021 Jets will be in that position.

The offense was just abysmal. QB Zach Wilson completed 19 of 35 passes for 160 yards, no touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. The point that Wilson threw 2 interceptions wasn't a good point though because the game was well out of reach by that point and things had kept going downhill more and more. However, it wasn’t just Wilson that was bad, the O-line was horrific again and the running game was never able to get established. In addition, the offense committed one costly delay of game penalty midway through the second quarter while kicker Matt Amendola drilled a 56-yard field goal attempt which would have made it a 10-3 ballgame but the Jets were unable to get the snap off in time and were pushed out of range. The Jets did not even bother trying a 61- yard field goal and punted the ball back to the Broncos.

The defense was equally as bad as they committed costly penalties throughout. This is due to a lack of discipline in the locker room. Moving forward, HC Robert Saleh is going to have to address playing smart, disciplined football. So far, his mantra of “All Gas and No Brake” has yet to materialize. Probably the most unacceptable penalty was the taunting penalty on the Jets special teams being that the Jets were already down 17-0 and were going to give the Broncos excellent field position.

Next week, the Jets will return home to take on the Tennessee Titans. That is going to be yet another tough challenge as it will be near impossible to stop RB Derrick Henry and they have a very intimidating defense that will look to harass Wilson all afternoon. Don’t worry Jets fans...with a rookie quarterback and rookie head coach, it takes some time to figure things out but I think you will be pleased with the results in the near future.
