WILSON TAKES THE NEXT STEP BUT IT IS NOT ENOUGH IN CLOSE LOSS IN MIAMI

Last Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium. It was yet another heartbreaking loss for Gang Green. As a matter of fact, they have not won a game in Miami since 2014 during Rex Ryan’s final game as Jets head coach. While the times may have changed, they certainly have not been for the better for us Jets fans.

In terms of the offense, QB Zach Wilson played really well in the first half but was not able to find a rhythm in the second half just like the Eagles game a couple of weeks ago. He completed 13 of 23 passes for 170 yards, a rushing touchdown, and no interceptions. This was the second straight week that Wilson has not thrown an interception and this was against one of the premier defenses in the league. However, the Dolphins' defense made the necessary adjustments at halftime to make sure the Jets didn’t hurt their playoff chances. In that case, a 17-10 halftime lead turned into a 31-24 loss. In addition, the O-line had another hard time protecting Wilson as he was sacked six times.

In terms of the defense, while it wasn’t their worst game of the season, it certainly was not their best. When the game was tied at 24 late into the 4th quarter, they allowed the Dolphins to march all the way down the field on a time-consuming drive to score the game-winning touchdown. This has been the third week in a row that the Jets defense has allowed 30 or more points. This is usually a recipe for disaster because it is a lot to ask from a rookie quarterback to put up 30 or more points.

This week, the Jets will host the Jacksonville Jaguars. This should be an intriguing matchup between the No. 1 pick in Trevor Lawrence and the No. 2 pick in Zach Wilson. Both quarterbacks have had their shares of ups and downs so far this season and this will be a golden opportunity for both the Jets and the Jaguars to see if they have their franchise quarterbacks for the future. On a side note, HC Robert Saleh has tested positive for COVID-19 so it will be TE Coach Ron Middleton taking over the head coaching duties for the Green and White. Jets fans...hopefully, this is a golden opportunity to show why Wilson is better than Lawrence.
