NEW STARS OUT TO PROVE THEY’RE NOT THE SAME OLD JETS

Yesterday, the New York Jets took on the Cleveland Brown at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Jets pulled off a miracle comeback and ended up winning the game 31-30 and improved to 1-1 on the season. This is the Jets' first win in the month of September since Week 1 of 2018. In addition, this was backup QB Joe Flacco’s first win since November 2019 when he was under center with the Denver Broncos and his first in a Jets uniform.

Earlier this week, Jets HC Robert Saleh said that he would be “keeping receipts' of those that didn’t believe in the Jets this season. While there is still a long way to go this season, this is the start of the Jets proving doubters wrong.

In terms of the offense, they were extremely efficient today. The play calling was kept simple and the offensive line did a better job at protecting Flacco. He completed 26 out of 44 passes for 306 yards, 4 touchdowns, and most importantly, no interceptions. Flacco and the Jets' offense made all of the big plays with the game on the line. With the Jets trailing 30-17, Flacco found a wide open Corey Davis for a 66-yard touchdown reception with just over a minute left to play. However, it looks like this would not matter as the Jets would need to recover an onside kick and score another touchdown and rookie WR Garrett Wilson answered the call. Luckily, this was exactly what happened as the Jets snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. The two rookies in Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson both scored touchdowns today for Gang Green (Wilson scored 2).

In terms of the defense, they did not play nearly as well as they did last week. Against the Ravens in Week 1, the defense held the Ravens rushing to only 64 yards, which was the lowest in their franchise history. That was not the case this week as both Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt had multiple big runs against the Jets' defense and it looked like that combination would send the Jets to 0-2. In addition, multiple penalties were committed in the 4th quarter giving the Browns better field position. Still, with just under 25 seconds to go, the Browns had a chance to get into field goal range and kick a game-winning field goal but Browns QB Jacoby Brissett’s pass was picked off by third-year safety Ashtyn Davis sealing the Jets' victory.

Special teams also deserves a shoutout for converting on a fake punt earlier in the game where punter Braden Mann connected with Garrett Wilson on a 4th down play on a drive that would eventually result in a Jets touchdown.

Next week, the Jets will return home to take on the winless Bengals. While the Bengals are winless this season, this does not mean anything as they were in the Super Bowl last season. If the Jets play anything like how they played today, I am confident that they will win but they can do a better job stopping the run and cutting down on the penalties. Get excited Jets fans…the kids are here to win. J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!!
