Jets Vs Patriots Preview

As the Jets come out of a bye week, not having played since the Buffalo win two weeks ago, they head up to Foxborough for a highly anticipated rematch against their division foes in New England. Jets QB Zach Wilson would rather forget about his last meeting with the Patriots three weeks ago at Metlife, having thrown three interceptions despite his two TD passes and 355 yards in the air. As a result, the Jets lost a tough one by a score of 22-17. This time around, cutting turnovers will be key to win this game. As we all know from the past, the Patriots will take full advantage of costly turnovers if they happen. Hence, having not won in New England since the 2010-11 postseason and having lost 13 straight to the Patriots.

The two QB's battling in today's matchup
(Zach Wilson Left and Mac Jones Right)
For today's injury report, starting with the Patriots, WR Davante Parker is listed as questionable with a knee injury, DT Christian Barmore is out with a knee injury and P Jake Bailey is listed as doubtful with a back injury. Parker more and likely will play, and Bailey will more than likely be out. For the Jets, WR Corey Davis is out with a knee injury and DT Sheldon Rankins is also out with an elbow injury. OG Nate Herbig is listed as questionable with a shin injury. He more than likely will play, being that the Jets need all the help they can get up front protecting Zach Wilson.

For a preview of the Patriots, starting offensively, it all leads to Patriots and former Alabama signal caller Mac Jones. Although the Patriots have been improving offensively, Jones has had a lackluster year so far, with only 4 TD passes and 7 interceptions and he has been dealing with lingering injuries all year as well. The main focal point of this offense without a doubt has to be the 1-2 punch in the backfield with Patriots RB's Rhamondre Stevenson and Damien Harris. Stevenson has been vital to any of the success the Patriots' offense has had. At WR, Jones' main target man would have to be Jakobi Meyers. Meyers is quick and plays well in space with good speed, but nonetheless, he is containable. At TE, big end zone target Hunter Henry also plays a big role in this offense, especially around the goal line.

Defensively, the Patriots have been solid this year. One guy in particular is a leader and Sack machine on this defense. That guy is LB Matthew Judon. He leads the NFL currently with 11.5 sacks, which has him averaging over a sack a game. It is fair to say, he will keep the Jets' offensive lineman's hands full all game. Along with Judon, both DE's Lawrence Guy and Deatrich Wise Jr. both are solid at their respective positions and although they each don't have anywhere near the amount of sacks that Judon has, they have lots of QB hurries and do get into the backfield quite often despite the fact. In the secondary, veteran Safety Devin McCourty and veteran CB Jalen Mills lead the way to what is a balanced, but not an overwhelming defense. Overall, this team doesn't necessarily have many "wow factor" players, but will capitalize on opportunities given to them and bury teams in the ground with their mistakes.

For the Jets to win this game today, as mentioned, cut the turnovers down. If Jets QB Zach Wilson can replicate a performance similar to the Bills game, he will find himself a winner. The sophomore QB has a chance to break a major losing streak to a division rival today. Will it happen is the main question? Lucky for me, I'll be hanging out with Gotham City Crew for this contest as I will be in attendance for my first Jets game of the 2022 season.

For today's prediction, it comes without saying that no doubt, this could be one of the hardest games for the Jets to win going forward the rest of the way. However, I do believe that this time, they will get the monkey off their back and find success within. Play simple and conservative football because that's what beats a good Bill Belichick-coached team. I'll take the Jets in hopefully a game to remember to win by a score of 20-17.
