WHITE HAS HEART OF A CHAMPION BUT NOT ENOUGH TO SWEEP BILLS

On Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Buffalo Bills in a rematch of their Week 10 matchup in which the Jets won 20-17. However, today was not Gang Green’s day as they fell to the Bills 20-12 in a snowy Orchard Park. This is also the first time this season that the Jets have lost two games in a row.

In terms of the offense, they struggled mightily in the first half but appeared to find a rhythm in the second half. Despite losing WR Corey Davis (out for the rest of the game) and QB Mike White (twice but came back both times), the Jets were able to make a game out of it against one of the best teams in the AFC. White completed 27 of 44 passes for 268 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions. What killed the Jets on offense though were two costly fumbles; one by backup QB Joe Flacco and one by RB Michael Carter. Had these turnovers not occurred, there is a very good chance that the Jets might have won this football game. On a positive note, Jets WR Garrett Wilson continues to make a name for himself as he passed Keyshawn Johnson’s rookie receiving yards record for the most in Jets history.

In terms of the defense, they were able to get tremendous pressure on Bills QB Josh Allen early. However, losing DT Quinnen Williams for the rest of the game really hurt after he recorded 2 sacks in the game. The killer though on defense was when the Bills had it 4th and 1 at their own 25-yard line and were likely just trying to draw the Jets off but LB CJ Mosley jumped offsides keeping the drive alive, which would eventually lead to the game’s first touchdown. In this game, penalties were a major issue that will need to be overcome during these next 4 games if the Jets want to make the playoffs this season. While the officiating may not have been the best, the Mosley offsides was painfully evident and extremely costly. In addition, not to make excuses but the number of injuries the Jets suffered today also did them in.

This week, the Jets will head back home to take on the Detroit Lions. The Jets cannot take this team lightly as they desperately need to win this game. The Lions come in with one of the best offenses in the NFL but have struggled mightily on defense. The big question though is who the Jets starting quarterback will be next week if Mike White isn’t ready to go. After Sunday's game, he immediately went to the hospital to get checked and is on a day-to-day basis along with Quinnen Williams (Update: White Out Williams Questionable). If White cannot play, the Jets must go back to Zach Wilson (Update: He will start) as he is much more mobile than Joe Flacco who I never want to see out on the field again for the Jets. If White can play, he should start, if not give Wilson one more chance to prove himself. It is up to HC Robert Saleh now to play whoever gives his team the best chance to win because that is all that matters this time of the year. Don’t worry Jets fans…even though your team lost, they still showed they have a lot of fight in them for the stretch run.
