Jets vs Bills Preview

As week 10 approaches, The New York Jets have a subpar 3-6 record, and any win at this point will keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Well were in luck fans, we got the Bills at home this week, who like the Jets, also have been dealing with their share of losses lately and have a lousy 2-7 record.

In this game, It looks like we won't be seeing either team's starting QB's since both Sam Darnold has a strained foot and currently listed as doubtful to suit up and already was announced as the backup this week and Josh Allen is also doubtful and is now leaning towards not being available for today's matchup.

If this ends up being the case where neither of these guys play, The Jets can finally call upon signal caller Josh McCown, who we know lots about from last season and he will be getting his first start of 2018 in a situation where the Jets will need to win desperately. As for the Bills, lots of their subpar offensive performances have been credited to QB Nathan Peterman, and they're trying their best not to start him, and just recently, they signed QB Matt Barkley and now he will be making his first ever start for the Bills and his first NFL start since 2016 with the Chicago Bears. He is very raw and that is something the Jets defense can totally take advantage of.

Now for the Jets offense today, they will be without WR Robby Anderson in this one, and obviously, without Sam Darnold as well. Josh McCown must understand that today, he is up against the 3rd ranked defense currently in the NFL. The reason this team hasn't been doing well is credit to their offense, not their defense. Even though they're coming off giving up 41 points at home to the Bears, they for sure will be ready to bounce back and try to take advantage of a beat up Jets offense. McCown needs to take advantage of using Isiah Crowell today as well, since the throwing game will be limited today with lots of wind and a missing receiver. Some loose targets for the Jets on offense should be TE Chris Herndon, who I felt bad for not mentioning in my last preview article against the Bears, as well as WR's Quincy Enunwa and Jermaine Kearse. If McCown finds any open slots, he must take advantage, cause this Bills defense will not let go easily. Also, let us not sleep on WR Deontay Burnett, who slowly is developing into what might be a strong Jets WR.

Enough Offense lets talk about the defense. This is the first time this year I've been super confident about this defense coming into a game. CB Trumaine Johnson will be back this week, and that for sure will help spark some of the Jets' coverage game, especially when you're up against one of the NFL's worst offenses in the league. The Jets defense answered the call last week against Brock Osweiler and the Miami Dolphins, and held them to just 6 points on offense. The other 7 points came from a Sam Darnold INT that I would rather not get into too many details about.

Some Bills offensive targets the Jets will need to keep their eyes on include RB LeSean "Shady" McCoy, Ex-Jets RB Chris Ivory, and WR Kelvin Benjamin. I would also include TE Charles Clay, but he will be out in today's matchup due to injury. The Bills also love to throw to TE Jason Croom in off coverage, and he becomes an automatic Red Zone threat due to the fact, and the Jets must have good coverage if that situation comes today. Last but not least, WR Zay Jones will have to keep our attention on as well, and if Jets fans remember last year on Thursday Night Football, He scored a TD against the defense even though the Jets dominated overall. Maybe the guy has a thing for scoring his TD's at Metlife Stadium. Even though the Bills have offensive targets, since they've had trouble at the QB position, all of their receiving targets become non-factors to other teams, so they do like to rely heavily on the run game because of it. If you're a true NFL fan, you know how strong both Shady McCoy and Chris Ivory are, and they will punish any team by any means necessary. Along with their strong offensive line, this presents the Jets defensive front 3 a big challenge this week, and they must be knowing what to expect.

Ultimately, this game could turn into a defensive battle, considering how strong both of these defenses are looking, and I expect a low scoring one, but obviously, we all know who the stronger of these two teams are, and that for sure is the New York Jets. Metlife Stadium will be rocking today, and will give the Jets that energy to finally break out of that losing skid that has made a deep hole in their record. Give me the Jets in this classic division matchup 17-14.
