Jets Vs Patriots Preview

A classic divisional matchup comes up for the Jets in week 12 as they play hosts to Good Ol' Brady and the New England Patriots.

Once again, The Jets will be without Sam Darnold in this game as he still is fighting a sprained foot, and it doesn't seem like much progress was being made there. In the meantime, Josh McCown will once again be under center and hopefully, puts on a better show then he did two weeks ago in the embarrassment against the Bills. The Patriots always play the Jets tough, so in order for the Jets to be able to win (highly unlikely), they must counter back and not rely on the defense to stop Tom Brady or else this game will be heading in the wrong direction.

Coach Todd Bowles remains on the hot seat, and so far, has shown no reason why he shouldn't be fired as soon as this season ends. If you think about it, most of these players are playing for Bowles' job security, because he's on thin ice and can't seem to ever rally the Jets together in any crucial situation throughout his coaching career. If he can get a win today, he may be able to break a sweat, and Jets fans may finally be able to be happy for him for the first time in a while. Either way, he likely will not be the Jets coach by next season, so for the time being, He has to maximize any opportunity he may get during the rest of this year.

Offensively today, the Jets will see Robby Anderson return today, and hopefully, he becomes an effective target for Josh McCown today. Those two formed a dynamic duo last season that was pretty difficult to stop, and now will mark the first game they are both playing in since Week 14 of last season against the Broncos at Mile High, when McCown sustained a season-ending injury. Now is their chance to come together and be an effective offensive powerhouse. It may not be a terrible idea to pick up Robby Anderson and slot him into a Flex position if your fantasy football team needs a wideout for the week.

With the Jets defense, LB Brandon Copeland looks like he will play, but is listed as questionable. Also, DB Marcus Maye is doubtful today and most likely will be out. With that said, it is never an easy task playing the Patriots and Tom Brady, who is coming off illness during the week and is able to play. TE Rob Gronkowski, or better known as "Gronk" is returning to the lineup today as he was unable to suit up for their last week 10 matchup against the Titans (they lost without him). He plays a ginormous role in this offense and the Jets for sure will have to play some double coverage on him in order to try to make him a non-factor for Brady to throw to. They also feature WR Josh Gordon, who can be a huge deep threat, WR Julian Edelman who most Jets fans dislike and for good reason, and RB Sony Michel, who if he is able to play, can create big plays in the Patriots backfield.

With all these factors aside, the Patriots have lots to play for today, as they are trying to help their playoff stock in the AFC race so they can receive a first-round bye, while it seems like the Jets are just playing for the end of the regular season. I hate to ever have to pick against the Jets in this, but I've got the Patriots winning this one 31-17.
