Jets Titans Preview

The Struggling New York Jets at 3-8 having lost 5 straight games travel into the music city to play Marcus Mariota and the 5-6 Tennessee Titans.

Once again, It looks like Sam Darnold may be out again this week, but the Jets have said that it will be a game-time decision for him, but are leaning towards having him out this week. Assuming he won't be able to play, Josh McCown will be starting for the third straight game and is good to go despite hurting his thumb last week against the Patriots. Also offensively, WR Robby Anderson is questionable today and a decision will be made closer to game time for him as well. On the defensive side of the ball, Marcus Maye will be out today and has been placed on IR, so he is not expected to return this year because of a shoulder and thumb injury.

Assuming Josh McCown plays and Robby Anderson both play together again this week, a key to offensive success is having the chemistry that they both had together last year to return. Last week, McCown and Anderson didn't really find each other all that much, considering he only caught 2 passes for 22 yards. Quincy Enunwa also has something to prove in the last 5 games of this season and is hoping to receive a big money contract for next season and beyond, so he needs to play well in order to earn the cash. as well as those factors, Jermaine Kearse hopefully continues his success after he scored a TD last week and hopefully, it slides into this week as well. If the passing game isn't strong today, RB Elijah McGuire will be called on today and splitting carries with Isaiah Crowell and the ground game will be very necessary as well in order to find success.

Defensively, first things first, STOP THE RUN GAME!! Watching last week's match versus the Patriots made the run defense look embarrassing, as they allowed RB Sony Michel to run for 133 yards and score in the end zone. The Titans feature a two-headed monster in the backfield with Ex-University of Alabama star Derrick Henry and Ex-Patriots RB Dion Lewis, who both will present a threat to the Jets defense. If they are not stopped, it will become a field day for the Titans' offense. They also feature one of the most well rounded QB's in the league with Marcus Mariota, who can run as well as any RB and features a pocket passing ability as well. Sometimes, his inconsistencies lead to the Titans losing and it will depend on what side of Mariota we will see today. The Titans offense also features WR's Tajae Sharpe and Corey Davis, who both are quick and deep threats as well. A featured matchup in this game should be CB Trumaine Johnson and seeing how he is able to contain Corey Davis. He hasn't played up to his standard of the contract he signed, but Johnson has a chance to lock down one of the NFL's fastest receivers, and if he does so, you heard it here, the Jets will win.

With the Todd Bowles era running out of time, we hope that there are some shining lights left in the Jets 2018 season. Lately, it's been hard to take the Jets to win, but I'm confident that this will be the week they bounce back and surprise lots of people as well. If Corey Davis and Marcus Mariota are held in check and the inconsistent Mariota shows up, expect the Jets to be contenders and present a winning opportunity for themselves. Give me the Jets in a low scorer today 17-14.
