Jets Vs Packers Preview

In this low life Christmas weekend week 16 matchup, the 4-10 Jets play host to Aaron Rodgers and the 5-8-1 Green Bay Packers on Fan Appreciation Day. This matchup has no playoff implications to it and both teams play out till the season's end next week. This will also mark yet another week less until the very likely firing of HC Todd Bowles as well.

Coming off of a tough and hard-fought loss against the strong 10-4 Houston Texans two Saturdays ago, QB Sam Darnold proved his allegiance by playing a strong game and forcing the Texans to have to come back on a game-winning drive in order to win. Darnold completed 24 of 38 passes for 253 yards and 2 TDs. As the season comes towards an end, Darnold playing well is a promising site, and leaves Jets fans still intrigued to watch considering what the future has in store. In order for the Jets to pull out a win today, Darnold must play well in order to stand up to the mighty Aaron Rodgers. With Quincy Enunwa out again today, Darnold will be short one main receiver to pass to, but as long as he stays discipline like he has been, things should be just fine against a lackluster Packers defense.

Now although the Packers are 5-8-1 and this season has been a depressing one for them, QB Aaron Rodgers has a super bowl ring to his name and has been a dominant NFL QB for years on end, but injuries have plagued his career the past few seasons. This season will now mark the second straight season that the Packers will miss the playoffs and the first time in the Rodgers era where he played a full season and they missed the playoffs. This will also mark the first time they have missed the playoffs in two consecutive seasons since the 2005-2006 seasons, at the beginning of Rodgers NFL career. As Jets fans, we wish our playoff drought was only two seasons, but it unfortunately has been much longer, and much more depressing too. The Packers also recently fired HC Mike McCarthy after he coached them for 13 seasons, and Interim HC Joe Philbin has head coaching duties until the season's end. This has been nothing short of an upsetting season for the Cheeseheads.

Now for all the negatives about this team, we can't ever forget some of the offensive targets they possess that could very easily present a threat to the Jets. Obviously, QB Aaron Rodgers falls into that conversation as well as WR Davante Adams, who is having the best season of his career. They also feature Aaron Jones in the backfield and TE Jimmy Graham who all could present as targets against the Jets. I would expect this match to be an offensive showcase for Rodgers, who has only thrown two interceptions all season, so there is plenty of ball security there. In the main matchup today, look out for Davante Adams especially. That matchup presents a huge threat for the Jets Defensive Backs and they must be ready to take it on if they want to win today.

As well as Darnold playing well today, the Jets running game must take flight today, considering the Packers are ranked 22nd in the league against the rush. RBs Elijah McGuire and Trenton Cannon must be strong to help the Jets lead to victory, and the run game could be that extra push the Jets need in order to take the win today. However, if it starts to become a back and forth offensive game, It has been proven time and time again that Rodgers has the capabilities to win games in offensive showdowns, so the Jets defense cannot rely on the offense to bail them out for bad play. Aside from later in the game last week, the Jets defense looked strong against the Texans and forced them into panic mode, and should be hoping to do the same to the Packers today. This game is very winnable for either side here, and the Vegas line is only favoring the Packers by 2.5 points, so expect a close game.

As for predictions, I'm confident the Jets can bounce back and take away from all the positives of the last two weeks where they've played much better. As the Bowles era most likely comes to an end after week 17 next week against the Patriots in Foxborough, Today will in fact mark Bowles last win as a Jets head coach in his only ever meeting with the Packers as a Jets head coach. It will be a good Christmas showdown for sure, but I can ensure a happy Christmas week for Jets fans this year. Give me the Jets in a close game winning 28-24 in a strong win to close out the home campaign this season. MERRY CHRISTMAS JETS FANS AND JET UP!! J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!!!

P.S Let's all give a shoutout to Safety Jamal Adams, Kicker Jason Myers, and Kick Returner/Wideout Andre Roberts a shoutout for being elected to the Pro Bowl as the Jets representatives this year. It is well deserved
