Jets Vs Texans Preview

Coming into a game having won the week before for the first time since coming into Week 7's loss against the Vikings following a win against the Colts, The Jets have a chance to win two in a row as they come home from their very successful trip up to Buffalo as they play hosts to Desean Watson, JJ Watt, and the strong 9-4 Houston Texans on Saturday Night Football in Primetime.

The Jets played a fantastic late fourth quarter heroic game, and found a chance to score on an Elijah McGuire TD late in the game on a fourth and goal opportunity. With the return of QB Sam Darnold to the lineup, It was noticeable to see a change to the Jets offensive tempo, and despite being down for a majority of last weeks game, they found the ways to make the big plays, and for these last three games here in the 2018 campaign, they should continue to do the same. Unfortunately, the running game did take a blow now that the Jets have sent RB Isiah Crowell onto IR with a toe injury that will be ending his season. In his place, the Jets have activated RB De'Angelo Henderson, who should be expecting more touches along with Elijah McGuire and Trenton Cannon. Not to mention Cannon is questionable for this week, so they may be very thin at that position depending on if he plays or not. For the last 3 games, that will be the Jets 3 man backfield.

In the receiver pool, WR Quincy Enunwa is listed as out today with an ankle injury, so that will lead WR Robby Anderson to be the top receiver available for the game today. This means that despite the Jets being down their top receiver, guys like Anderson and TE Chris Herndon must step up in his absence in order for the Jets to maintain offensive efficiency like last week. QB Sam Darnold also must continue his success from last week and bring it into this week and bookmark right where he left off. When he's on his game, Darnold becomes a very efficient QB and it shows in some of his amazing playmaking ability, like the scramble play against Buffalo last week to escape pressure and find Robby Anderson with a beautiful TD pass to give the Jets life. These next 3 games prove many opportunities for Darnold to prove himself and hopefully pick up a win or two before the 2018 campaign closes.

Enough about the Jets, let us preview the Houston Texans. Despite a 0-3 start to the season, coach Bill O'Brien and second-year QB Desean Watson instilled success to their team, and they went on to win 9 straight games before breaking that streak last week when losing 24-21 to the Colts. Like last week for the Jets, this team also features a QB in Watson with very strong running abilities. QB Josh Allen gave the Jets a hard time with his scrambling last week, and Watson will look to do the same as his team makes a playoff push and has a slight chance to even clinch the postseason this week. In the run game, Ex Dolphins RB Lamar Miller is the main man who features breakaway running ability, which showed in his week 8 Thursday Night Football matchup against his former team (the Dolphins). While he is presented as a threat to the offense for the Texans, so is WR Deandre Hopkins. A Clemson product like Desean Watson, Hopkins season by season has proven himself to be easily one of the most elite receivers in the NFL, and a key fantasy target for you fantasy players. This offense therefore presents a threat to anybody they play against.

Now for their defense, they're one of the best defenses in the league. Their defensive front features popular NFL star JJ Watt and Jadaveon Clowney, who both could make Darnold's day miserable if they beat the Jets O line (which there is a high chance they would). They also have famous LSU safety Tyrann "Honeybadger" Mathieu, who is known for some of his amazing plays and antics from his college days. With the strong Texans defense, The Jets offense (especially the O line) must wake up and be ready for what's about to come at them. This defense is a powerhouse and really will never go down without a fight, and JJ Watt proves that. He battled a fractured leg that kept him out of most of the 2017 season, and he has come back stronger then even before in the 2018 season. The Jets really need to keep an eye on him, or things could go South right back down to Houston real quick.

The two main keys to the game today are two defensive related keys as I had already explained about the offensive keys. The main key comes down to how the defense will manage Desean Watson's running ability at QB. Last week, QB Josh Allen ran all over the Jets defense and had a field day running the ball. The Jets can't let Watson do the same, or they for sure will lose today. The second key to today's game is how will Trumaine Johnson do again today? He has had an awesome past two weeks with the pick 6 against the Titans two weeks back and the game-clinching interception last week to seal the victory against the Bills. He is finally playing to the ability that he is capable of, and must continue to do so in order to maintain his $72.5 million for the next 5 years (this year included) and $34 million guaranteed.

As for the prediction today, with the Jets winning against Buffalo last week and the Texans breaking that long win streak last week losing to the Colts at home, this game may be harder then some think for Houston. Sometimes when your team has a big win streak and it breaks, It can be difficult to start up the winning ways again, and traveling all the way to East Rutherford isn't an easy travel for them either. Today might just be a jubilant day for Jets fans, and this game may be closer then some may think. Give me the Jets here today with the final score 21-17.
