The Jets Crazy Offseason (and Amazing Draft)

Since a majority of the offseason acquisitions are over with for most NFL teams now at this point, The Jets found themselves right into the thick of things this offseason and now, there seems to be a winning mentality in the Big Apple once again. From big acquisitions to new jerseys and a solid first-round draft pick in Quenin Williams, the Jets offseason has been nothing short of eventful.

Come week 17's tough 38-3 loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, things seemed like they were in a bad place, after finishing 4-12 and getting rid of HC Todd Bowles (who ended up finding a job as the Bucs Defensive Coordinator). Once a few things quickly switched for the Jets, the confidence level started to rise. Now, we've reached a point where fans are starting to become confident that the playoffs may, in fact, be within reach for the first time since 2010.

First, some losses going the Jets way this offseason. Even though the Jets have had lots of money to spend this offseason, they were unable to sign some notable players like Pro Bowl Kick and Punt Returner Andre Roberts, who signed with division rival Buffalo and Pro Bowl Kicker Jason Myers, who signed in Seattle with the Seahawks. Not to mention Buster Skrine also signed with the Bears, but if you ask me, it was time for him to go. And just as we all thought the Jets would also be signing LB Anthony Barr from the Minnesota Vikings to a high money contract, he backed out of the deal and decided to stay with the Vikings instead. This believe it or not ended up helping the Le'veon Bell deal get done faster because all this money was now at the table, the Jets front office had more to spend on the Pro Bowl level Running Back.

Now for some gains this offseason, there were plenty of those. Some of the biggest signings include RB Le'veon Bell OBVIOUSLY!!! -He was mentioned in another one of our articles about the positives about that signing- and LB C.J. Mosley, who has proven he is a pro bowl level player, as well as the trade for OG Kelechi Osemele, which is an amazing bolster to the line with the loss of James Carpenter.  Some other notables include the signing of K Chandler Catanzaro, Wideouts Josh Bellamy and Jamison Crowder, who both can be threats when put into the slot receiver positions. For non-players, the Jets signed Adam Gase to be their new head coach and brought in a completely new coaching staff as well. With an offensive heavy system the Jets look to have under Gase next year, Sundays at Metlife may have already been bolstered and make for an exciting 2019 season. With a new playcaller on offense in Dowell Loggains and a defensive guru in Gregg Williams,  there is lots of promise that the Jets new coaching staff has what it takes to get it done, as long as the chemistry continues to ride strong with the players at hand.

Shortly before the draft, the Jets had a big release of their all new look for the 2019 season with new jerseys. They now feature 5 new jersey combinations this year. Those 5 combos are the Home uniform (Green Top White bottoms), Away uniform (White top green bottoms), Alternate uniforms (Black Top Black bottoms), The green combo (All Green Uniform), and the white combo (All white Uniform). With a majority of Jets fans loving the new looks, It also looks to help Jets merchandise sales go up big this year as well, since some will be tired of the "outdated" jerseys. A new look along with a new team mentality will for sure make the Jets better throughout 2019.

After all the big signings, the jersey release, and the Osemele Trade, the Jets fans were then getting excited about the draft. Although many Jets fans were anticipating a possible first-round draft pick trade in exchange for a big time player to help bolster the team, the Jets decided to keep the 3rd overall pick they had. With that pick, DE Quenin Williams from the University of Alabama was selected, and many Jets fans were happy to see him put on the Green and White. According to NFL.com, his greatest qualities as a rusher are being able to be quick off of the Line during QB rushes as well as good hand adjustments and good ability to spy down on QB's and create pressure. Ultimately, this first round pick should hopefully live up to its hype.

Now as we are at the beginning of May, Jets fans look forward to the season ahead, as a majority of acquisitions have now been completed, and before you know it, training camp will be back as soon as the summer comes around. All in all, this season should be exciting to watch and Jet fans may have something to live up to with what could be a big-time 2019 season. Without a doubt, this may just be something boiling up in the works for GM Mike Maccagnan, and with the build-up of anticipation, Jets fans for the first time in a while have lots to be excited about. Maccagnan is on a tight rope as the Jets GM, and doesn't have much time left to put a winning team together for the Green and White. As an early prediction this year, the Jets will finish above .500 for the first time since 2015, when despite a 10-6 record ended up missing the playoffs. The bold prediction here is that the Jets will finish 9-7 and make the playoffs for the first time since 2010 as a wild card. It may sound far-fetched at the moment, but mark my words, the Jets are coming to play this year and could make lots of noise all throughout the 2019 season. With the development of Sam Darnold and a new look around him, this season looks to be a good one.
