DARNOLD ALREADY TAKES SOPHOMORE JUMP

On Thursday Night, the New York Jets took on the New York Giants in the annual preseason Snoopy Bowl at MetLife Stadium. Even though the Jets lost 31-22, the final score was secondary and there were many positives in regards to the Jets starting offense. As soon as the game began, Darnold and the starting offense were clicking on all cylinders.

Darnold and the offense converted on multiple 3rd downs to set up the opening drive touchdown. This was something the Jets struggled with all season last year, as they had no opening drive touchdowns. A key play on the first drive was when Darnold hit TE Chris Herndon for a big play deep into Giants territory (It would be nice if he wasn’t suspended for the first four games of the regular season). In addition, on a 3rd and 2, Darnold found newly acquired WR Jamison Crowder for the touchdown. Jets fans should be very optimistic and look for him to have a big impact this season. Moving forward, it already seems like Gase and the Jets offense have found their rhythm.

Now for some negatives, Kicker Chandler Catanzaro missed two extra points. While they were not a significant impact in this game, down the road this could be a problem in a tight game situation. Next, third string QB Davis Webb was just horrendous as he threw two killer interceptions on back to back drives. Hopefully, Darnold stays healthy and they do not even have to consider playing him. Lastly, RB Le’Veon Bell did not get any playing time in this game but will likely play at some point in the preseason to get him reps.

Next week, the Jets will travel to Atlanta to play the Falcons in their second preseason game which will be televised on CBS. Get excited Jets fans…your starting offense and defense looked as good as they did back in 2010. Do not fret over this preseason loss, we will settle business with the Giants when it counts in November. J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!
