NEW STARS SHINE BUT THEY ARE STILL THE SAME OLD JETS

Yesterday, the New York Jets hosted the Buffalo Bills in their home opener. It was round 2 of Darnold vs. Allen and the debut for Jets coach Adam Gase. After building a comfortable 16-0 lead late in the 3rd quarter, the Jets lost a heartbreaker 17-16. The game was filled with many red flags that will need to be corrected ASAP.
While the defense played extremely well forcing four turnovers, the offense was not able to generate much rhythm. This could be due to the fact that the starting offensive line had never played together during the preseason. Therefore, Darnold was under pressure and had passes tipped all throughout the game. However, he completed 28 of 41 passes for 175 yards, 1 touchdown, no interceptions.

The biggest concern is the kicking game or should I say lack of? Newly acquired Jets kicker Kaare Vedvik missed a field goal and an extra point which would have been more than enough for the Jets to win today.

While LB CJ Mosley had a solid debut including a pick six, he left the game with a groin injury in the 4th quarter and his status remains unknown. As soon as the veteran left the game, the entire defense fell apart allowing Bills QB Josh Allen to engineer a 14-point comeback in the final quarter.

He rushed for 60 yards, caught a touchdown pass and 2-point conversion from Darnold. Next week the Jets will host the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football as part of the Jets Annual First Responders Night. Both teams are 0-1 and will be looking to avoid an 0-2 start to the young season. The Jets offense needs to be explosive, kicks need to go through the uprights, and the defense must play well for all four quarters. This formula will put them in a prime position to win. Don’t worry Jets fans…it is just one game and we will get our revenge Week 17. J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!
