WEEK 2…ALREADY IN THE PIT OF MISERY

On Monday Night, the New York Jets hosted the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football. It was an embarrassing no show effort by the entire Jets team. The 23-3 loss dropped them to 0-2 early in the season. So far, both losses have occurred at MetLife Stadium. For Jets fans, this has been pure agony as this season was supposed to be filled with high hopes. Perhaps it did not help that the Jets were minus QB Sam Darnold to start with due to mononucleosis. Also, backup QB Trevor Siemian looked pitiful before getting injured in the 2nd quarter. He was replaced by third string QB Luke Falk. Even though he wasn’t effective, Falk’s numbers weren’t terrible posting 20/25 passes for 198 yards, no TD’s and no interceptions. There is no time for excuses as the remaining schedule gets much tougher and Darnold’s absence remains a huge question mark.
Once again similar to previous years, there were way too many penalties. The Jets were penalized 12 times for 89 yards, often extending third down drives, which allowed the Browns to rack up some more points. Due to this, the defense was out on the field for way too long. The past couple of years, the Jets beat themselves multiple times in the 4th quarter due to committing careless penalties. There needs to be discipline. HC Adam Gase needs to step up and hold his players accountable for their poor decisions on the field.
In addition, the offense was unable to get into a rhythm and only managed to score three points against a team that gave up 30 points against the mediocre Titans last week. This was because the Browns defense was able to apply tremendous pressure and the O-line offered zero protection. As a matter of fact, their defense limited Bell to only 68 rushing yards. Coming into the game, the Jets knew that in order to have any success without Darnold, they would need to have a consistent running game in order to ease the QB burden.

/Users/20202080/Desktop/Unknown.jpegThe only highlight of the game was when newly acquired kicker Sam Ficken, drilled a 47-yard field goal tallying the only Jets points of the game. It looks as though the Jets have finally found their kicker. This field goal would have been the difference in last week’s game. Then they would be 1-1 instead of 0-2 and in a much better position than they are going into Week 3. Next week, the Jets travel to Gillette Stadium to take on the New England Patriots for the first time this season. With the way things have gone these first two weeks, it is safe to say the Jets will be 0-3. If the Jets keep on losing…Jets fans should start to worry...
