TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT

Yesterday, the New York Jets took on the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium. Finally…Finally a win. The Jets pulled off the improbable upset 24-22 as they got their first win of the season. What made the win that much more exciting was that Darnold shined in his return after being sidelined from mono by completing 23 of 32 passes for a whopping 338 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He made all the difference. This game was also the first time the Jets scored 20+ points in a game this year. One of the main highlights of the game was when Darnold hooked up with Anderson for a 92-yard touchdown reception. This was what Jets fans were hoping they would have seen throughout the first four games of the season. Now the offensive play calling has suddenly become that much more aggressive now that their franchise signal caller is back and better than ever.

However, this victory did not come easily. After having a 21-6 lead at halftime, the Jets were outscored 16-3 in the 2nd half. In addition, it appeared as though a penalty was committed on every play by the Jets defense on Dallas’ final drive. The game ended up coming down to a 2-point conversion that Dallas failed to convert on. To make matters worse, the Jets barely recovered the onside kick at the end and it looked as though Dallas would recover and it would be another episode of “Same Old Jets”. But they were finally able to finish a game and they beat a true playoff contender.

If the Jets want to have any chance of beating the Patriots next week on Monday Night Football, they need to clean up these self-inflicting wounds such as committing costly penalties with the game on the line, bring all the pressure they possibly can on Brady, avoid turnovers, and score 30+ points. These tasks are easier said than done but yesterday proved that anything’s possible. Get excited Jets fans…you are no longer winless and that will not be the only victory of the season. J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!
