4 MORE YEARS OF BRAGGING RIGHTS…BUT IS THIS GOOD ENOUGH TO SAVE GASE’S JOB?

Today, the New York Jets hosted the New York Giants in the Battle of New York. The Jets were finally able to get a desperately needed win and score 30+ points this season. This also enables Jets fans to have bragging rights over the Giants fans for another 4 years until they meet in the regular season again. Regardless of the record of both of these teams, these matchups never fail to provide entertainment for 4 quarters.

QB Sam Darnold and the offense have finally found a consistent rhythm. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 230 yards, 1 touchdown, and no interceptions. For the third straight game, the Jets have scored a touchdown on their opening drive. Heading into this game, Coach Adam Gase was on the hot seat and most likely would have been fired at the end of the season if his Jets did not win today. Still, his team is 2-7 and would basically have to run the table to have any shot at the playoffs. While the next few weeks of the schedule seem pretty light, there are a couple of tough opponents mixed in there. However, if this team is able to improve upon their 4-12 record from a season ago, that is a step in the right direction.

The defense, especially Safety Jamal Adams absolutely harassed Daniel Jones (Danny Dimes). In the 4th quarter, he had 3 chances to try and tie the game but constant pressure by the Jets defense stopped any comeback. This game was eerily similar to the game against Green Bay last year. For those who do not remember, the Jets had multiple big leads throughout the game and ended up losing in overtime. It appeared as though that same result would happen again today. Last year, the Jets would have easily lost this game. It is very important to be able to protect a lead. This was one of the major reasons why they hired DC Gregg Williams. In addition, Giants RB Saquon Barkley was a non-factor in today’s game. Heading into the game, there was the talk of how he would run all over the Jets defense but they set the tone quickly (Saquon who???).

Next week, the Jets will travel to our nation’s capital to take on the Washington Redskins. They too have a rookie quarterback in Dwayne Haskins. Stay positive Jets fans…it is very possible to go on a run and be “in the conversation in December” as Gase once said. J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!
