Jets Vs Dolphins Preview

Finally, a winnable game comes around for the 1-6 Jets as week 9 approaches and the Jets head to Miami to play Ryan Fitzpatrick and the 0-7 Dolphins. The Jets are coming off a disappointing 29-15 loss to the Jaguars last week, where offensively, the consistency was once again lost.  QB Sam Darnold in just the past 2 weeks has totaled 7 Interceptions to just 2 TD passes, which is unacceptable. In order for the Jets to be able to win, Sam Darnold's poor play and him seeing ghosts while playing must stop. Today also marks the first game Head Coach Adam Gase is coaching against the Dolphins since he was fired from their head coaching job last year.

As the Jets continue to compile injuries, the confidence level starts to go down with it. There is a possibility 4 LB's will be out this week. Blake Cashman has been placed on IR and is done for the year, CJ Mosley reinjured his groin in last weeks game, and he is out. Neville Hewitt is doubtful today. Avery Williamson hasn't touched the field in the regular season this year. Luckily Frankie Luvu looks good to go and expect him to start along with Jordan Jenkins, so expect lots of more time for those guys today.

Just after last week's loss to the Jaguars, the Jets and Giants made history, having traded with each other for the first time ever. The Jets traded away DE Leonard "Big Cat" Williams in exchange for draft picks from the Giants, and this move showed the Jets were evidently not satisfied with Williams' performance as of late. It marked the only move for the Jets at this year's deadline this year. With Willaims' departure, Henry Anderson (when healthy) and Steve McClendon have bigger roles on the defensive front and must step up in order to keep the Jets defense rolling.

As for the actual game preview now, first and foremost the Dolphins. The Dolphins similar to the Jets haven't enjoyed much success this year at all. From getting beat 43-0 against the Patriots to losing a heartbreaker 17-16 to the Redskins, the Dolphins have had what you could call "a season to forget." As for their key players, they have ex Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick or "Fitzmagic" as most of his fans call him. While he is a streaky QB, he has shown his inconsistencies as well. In the backfield, both Mark Walton and Kalen Ballage split carries and both are good RB's. At receivers, WR Devante Parker, Albert Wilson, and Jakeem Grant are the top wideouts available for Fitzpatrick to throw to. Even though the Jets will be without starting CB Trumaine Johnson today, the secondary must be ready for Fitzpatrick to try to stretch the field to any of those receivers, as speed is their strength.

For the Jets to get back to their winning ways, the offense must come back to full shape as it was back in Week 6's victory against the Cowboys. TE Ryan Griffin had a big game last week despite the loss, and he could present a factor again today with TE Chris Herndon coming back in a limited role. QB Sam Darnold must continue to stretch the ball downfield to Robby Anderson against a weak and depleted Dolphins Secondary, which only features Pro Bowl CB Xavien Howard.

The offensive line continues to get depleted for the Jets, as Ryan Kalil is out today with an elbow injury and now, that forces Jonotthan Harrison to have to start at Center today. Kelvin Beachum is also questionable today and hasn't played the past few weeks due to an ankle injury. If he is unable to go, expect either Brandon Shell to switch to LT instead of RT or Connor McDermott will pick up the start. Ultimately, the weak and already defeated Jets offensive line must be more responsive today in what should be one of the most winnable games down the stretch for the Jets. With better offensive line play, RB Le'veon Bell can expand his game further as well.

and could be an X Factor in this Jets offense

Today's prediction is pretty standard. Two of the NFL's weakest teams are squaring off today in a game that may likely not matter for many other teams down the stretch. The Jets have been inconsistent, and I've been picking them to lose every week, but this week should be a competitive game. Adam Gase will get revenge on his old team for firing him and Sam Darnold will reverse back to his strong play and continue off where he was against the Cowboys. Give me the Jets here today to pick up their second win of the year and hand the Dolphins yet another loss by a score of 24-17.
