Jets Vs Redskins Preview

After coming off of a big 34-27 win against the Giants last week, Gang Green looks to make it two in a row as they head down to Landover, Maryland to take on young rookie QB Dwayne Haskins and the lifeless 1-8 Redskins. This game could continue what would start the first winning streak of the season for the Jets, but before thinking about winning, there are some injuries and players the Jets will most likely be without.

On the Jets injury report today, it seems likely that CB Daryl Roberts will be out again today as he is listed as doubtful. Along with Roberts, LB CJ Mosley is out again with that nagging groin injury, as well as C Ryan Kalil, who is out with a knee injury. Some notable questionables today include RB Le'veon Bell, OT Kelvin Beachum, DT's Henry Anderson and Steve McClendon, and WR Demaryius Thomas. I would expect that most if not all of the questionable guys end up being good to go, and it has already been announced that RB Le'veon Bell will probably play today despite the injuries and sickness. With CB Daryl Roberts probably out, expect CB's Nate Hariston and Bless Austin to be getting more reps today, and will be put up with the assignment of covering the Redskins receivers, who will be without Paul Richardson today, which is a major plus for the Jets. They will also be without their starting TE Vernon Davis as well.

The Redskins are a currently developing team, and have had just as rough of a season as the Jets have had, and they already have fired their original HC Jay Gruden after they started 0-5 this year. Now under Interim HC Bill Callahan, they are just trying to find a way to develop for seasons to come, as they have already put away their chances of making a playoff run this year. They also had started the season with QB Case Keenum, but he is now been benched due to bad play, and young former Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins is now their new starter. They also announced he would be starting for the rest of the season for them no matter what happens (except if he gets injured).

Despite all the negatives for this team and a season of losing, two players that have been strong for them this year have been RB Adrian Peterson and WR Terry McLaurin. Both will serve as major threats to the Jets, and although this Redskins team isn't an extremely deep team depth wise, they will continue to use these two offensive targets as pieces to help them win today. However, the Jets can continue their solid defensive performance from last week (EXCEPT THE SECONDARY)!!!

This will mark QB Dwayne Haskins second ever NFL start, and the first home NFL start of his young career. In his first start in Buffalo against the Bills, he was 15/22 for 144 yards and no TD's or INT's, but he was sacked 4 times. The Jets must keep a lot of pressure on the rookie so he makes his "rookies mistakes" today in order to win. The Jets defense was able to manage 6 sacks against rookie QB Daniel Jones last week, and that same pressure against Haskins can prove a difference maker today. The Jets must start right from where they left off last week.

Jets WR Jamison Crowder looks to have some
big revenge against his former team today
For the Jets offensively, similar to last week, they have to continue to spread the ball well today and QB Sam Darnold has to be turnover free. Today marks a big match for Jets WR Jamison Crowder as well, as this is his first time playing his former team since he has been on the Jets. Just a bold prediction here, but don't be surprised if Darnold looks to Crowder's side of the field a little more than usual today. This is in a way a revenge game for him, so I have strong confidence that Crowder will be strong today for the Jets offense.

For the game prediction, It will come down to how the Jets show up today. If it's similar to last week, things will be successful. If it's similar to how the Jets showed up in Miami, we may have a very long day upon us. Redskins QB Dwayne Haskins will probably have a strong game considering how thin the Jets secondary currently is, so it would come to no surprise that even if the Jets defensive front plays well, he will still have a good statistical day. However, with QB Sam Darnold gaining confidence back, it shows no reason why the Jets cannot be the stronger team on the field today. I will take the Jets in a competitive battle today winning 24-21.
