FICKEN THE SPRING CHICKEN LIFTS JETS ON WALK-OFF FG

Yesterday, the New York Jets took on the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium. This time the Jets prevailed and did not let the Dolphins sweep them this season. As a matter of fact, every team in the AFC East lost today except the J-E-T-S. With this victory, the Jets are now 5-8 on the season. They now have more wins than they had all of last season. This is a huge step in the right direction.

Miles and I were at the game yesterday.
This was the view from our seats
It was truly an entertaining matchup going back and forth throughout the 4th quarter. The Jets defense was able to hold the Dolphins to seven field goals which ended up being the difference in the game. The Jets defense was able to hold their ground in the red-zone to force three and outs. A lot of credit should be given to them for their performance in this game despite being down S Jamal Adams. If the Dolphins had been able to cash in for touchdowns, the Jets would have easily lost today. Moving forward, the Jets cannot rely on their defense to bail them out of situations when the offense isn’t functioning at its highest level.

In terms of the offense, while it was not a blockbuster performance, they made big plays at the right time to win the game. It all came down to a game-winning field goal with only 3 seconds left in the game. K Sam Ficken nailed it sending MetLife Stadium into a frenzy. By all means, this was certainly much better than last week’s lackluster performance. QB Sam Darnold completed 20 of 36 passes for 270 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception.

Next week, the Jets will travel to Baltimore to play the Ravens on Thursday Night Football. In order for the Jets to pull off the big upset, they cannot commit stupid penalties, they will need to score 30+ points, limit Ravens QB Lamar Jackson’s running game, and not give up more than 25 points. It will be a tall order but not impossible. The famous quote says, “Anybody can beat anybody in the NFL on any given Sunday”. Does this mean the same thing for Thursday nights too? Don’t worry Jets fans…it is possible that the Ravens will be overconfident heading into this marquee matchup. J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!
