JETS ONCE AGAIN PROVE NOT WORTHY OF A PLAYOFF CONTENDER

On Thursday Night, the New York Jets took on the red-hot Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium losing 42-21. Besides the MNF blowout by the Patriots, this had to be the Jets most lopsided loss this season. They are now 5-9 on the season and have picked up their fourth consecutive losing season in a row. Even though the Jets no longer have anything to play for throughout the remainder of the 2019 season, there are still many mistakes that need to be corrected moving forward.

The Jets defense let Ravens QB Lamar Jackson and RB Mark Ingram run all over them. The No. 2 Rushing Defense that the Jets took pride in was nowhere to be found last night. The defense that was able to hold the Dolphins to field goals in the red zone did not have the same success. The Dolphins and the Ravens could not be bigger polar opposites than they already are. Jets fans knew this one would be ugly being that they barely beat the Dolphins last Sunday. In reality, they never stood a chance in this game because the Ravens were able to score basically on every single drive. In addition, the defense was very undisciplined last night committing backbreaking penalties such as the pass interference on Jets LB Neville Hewitt that gave the Ravens the ball 1st and goal from the 1 which led to another TD.

Not only did the defense miss out on opportunities but the offense as well. From missing a field goal to turning the ball over on downs, this was a major dictator to how the game was going for the Jets. QB Sam Darnold completed 18 of 32 passes for 218 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. However, the lone interception came at the worst possible time. After KR Braxton Berrios was able to set the Jets up with excellent field position at the Ravens 40 right before halftime, Darnold threw a killer interception. This left the Jets coming up with nothing right before the half. Had the Jets been able to score a touchdown or even a field goal before the half, this may have been a very different ball game.

Next week, the Jets will return home to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Fan Appreciation Day at MetLife Stadium. The Steelers have become hot as of late and are making a push for a wild card spot. The only thing the Jets can do is play spoiler and maybe pick up some good vibes heading into next season. Don’t worry Jets fans…your team usually gives a great effort on Fan Appreciation Day.
