Jets Vs Ravens Preview

As the Jets travel to Baltimore for a Thursday Night Showdown and coming off of a huge 22-21 win over the Miami Dolphins and being eliminated from playoff contention, they must once again figure out how to beat one of the league's best team, if not the best team... without some key players.

Jets QB Sam Darnold was 20/36 for 270 yards and 2 TD passes. Although he started the second half sluggishly, he recovered nicely late in the fourth quarter and a major pass interference call late in the game would prove clutch in the Jets valiant fourth-quarter push. In order for the Jets to win today, Sam Darnold must play a perfect game. That means NO MISTAKES and CONSISTENT PASSES DOWNFIELD!!! The Ravens have one of the league's best defenses with guys like CB Marcus Peters and S Earl Thomas III.

Lamar Jackson is now a top QB in the NFL,
and will serve as a major threat in this matchup
For the Ravens, It cannot go without saying how amazing of a season QB Lamar Jackson is having for them. At the pace he is on, he could potentially be a Super Bowl Worthy QB this season. With his insane running and passing ability, he truly can serve as a one man wrecking crew. Along with him being a major offensive contributor, they have former Saints RB Mark Ingram II in the backfield and WRs Willie Snead and Marquise "Hollywood" Brown and TE Mark Andrews. This offense has so many other factors too, ultimately making them one of the most diverse and most difficult offenses to deal with in the NFL. In order for the Jets to have any shot of stopping them, they must run a lot of blitzes in order to force quick passes and to keep their run game at a complete minimum.

The Jets VERY VERY long injury report list
(along with the Ravens)
For the injury report, the Jets continue to have more and more players listed as the weeks go by. Although RB Le'veon Bell will be back this week after dealing with flu-like symptoms last week (and bowling night), It looks likely that the Jets will still be without S Jamal Adams. Adams, CB Arthur Maulet, WR Demaryius Thomas, and DT Quenin Williams are all doubtful, so expect them all not to play. S Brian Poole, OT Chuma Edoga, RB Billal Powell, and TE Ryan Griffin have all been ruled out and it looks likely that Griffin will be put on season ending IR as well. 6 players are also listed as questionable, but it seems as though all those 6 questionable players will be good to play.

For the Ravens, QB Lamar Jackson is questionable, but will probably play and so is TE Mark Andrews, but he will probably play as well. OT Ronnie Stanley is doubtful to play as well and he is one of their best offensive linemen. With this, the Jets must attack the side he normally plays on (Left side) in order to create the most pressure possible. Watch out for a few unexpected Gregg Williams blitz playing coming from that side of the field tonight.

In order for the Jets to win, the keys to the game today include Darnold playing well in prime time, as well as how the Jets will stop the Ravens running ability. For Darnold in prime time, if he wants to prove his worth, tonight would be the night to do it. With the use of WRs Jamison Crowder and Robby Anderson and RB Le'veon Bell, this can be a successful mission. Although Darnold has been consistently bad in prime time games, it is never too late to start proving his worth now, as he is only about to complete his second season in the league. Tonight would be a big night to do so, especially against a top team in the entire NFL in their Stadium.

The Jets own the top run defense in the league, only giving up 78.8 yards per game this season on average (source: The Michael Kay Show). With a team that loves to run the ball, the Jets run defense playing well could take out a major element of the Ravens offense, and force Lamar Jackson to make rushed passes and have to throw the ball instead of relying on his feet for the entire game. If the Gregg Williams defense shows up and comes to play on all aspects (even in our lousy secondary), the Jets for sure will stand a chance.

For today's prediction, we have to keep in mind that the Jets are traveling to Baltimore to play potential SuperBowl contenders tonight, so we must not get too ahead of ourselves and play this realistic. As the spread has the Jets at +14.5 (source: The New York Post), It seems likely that this game could potentially be a blowout. However, from last week's sneak away win against the Dolphins, the Jets could ride that momentum right into tonight's game, and maybe give the Ravens a run for their money. Although I hate having to go against the Jets, I just don't see the Jets having the ability to stick around with one of the league's top teams being as banged up and injured as they are coming into this one. I like the Ravens in this one winning 27-10.
