5 WEEKS IN... JETS LOOK LIKE WORST TEAM IN NFL AND NO SILVER LINING TO BE FOUND

On Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Arizona Cardinals at MetLife Stadium. Heading into this game, the Jets knew they would be without their starting quarterback in Sam Darnold so Joe Flacco made his first start ever as a Jet. The result, not very pretty, a 30-10 blowout. Aside from last week’s heartbreaking loss, the Jets have essentially looked non-competitive in every game they have played. It appears that whenever they do have a big play, it is always called back due to a penalty. This reflects heavily on the coaching staff and a lot of questions will be asked about which coaches will remain for next season or if they will get to finish this season with the way things are going.

In terms of the offense, Joe Flacco did whatever he could do to keep the Jets in this game. Flacco completed 18 of 33 passes for 195 yards, 1 touchdown, and no interceptions. This was another game in which the Jets did not turn the ball over but had such an inept offense. Once they got down into the red zone, they only got one touchdown in four trips there. As a matter of fact, this season the Jets score touchdowns 22.22% of the time when they reach the red zone which is second worst in the NFL. Good teams can score touchdowns consistently once they reach the red zone.

In terms of the defense, while they did not commit as many penalties as they did last week, they were committed at the worst possible times. A perfect example was when the Jets were trailing 24-10 in the 4th quarter and Cardinals QB Kyler Murray was deep in his own territory and he throws an interception to rookie S Ashtyn Davis. Guess what? There was a defensive holding call on the play. The Jets did not get the interception and the Cardinals would eventually kick a field goal, putting the game out of reach. In addition, the defense had a very difficult time stopping Kyler Murray’s rushing ability.

Next week, the Jets will actually travel to South Florida to take on the Miami Dolphins instead of traveling to the west coast to play the Chargers as previously scheduled. That game has been moved to Week 11 and the bye week was pushed ahead to Week 10. But at this point in the season, you are 0-5 so where will the wins come from is the big question? Your guess is as good as mine. Try not to worry Jets fans...hopefully, Darnold will be back next week and your team will put up a good fight against the Dolphins like they usually do.
