Jets Vs Dolphins Preview

An unusual change was made to the NFL schedule this week for the Jets, as we anticipated them playing the Chargers but due to COVID 19 and schedule change, they travel down to Miami to the division rival Dolphins this week. The Jets come off quite a wild week as RB Le'veon Bell was released after the 30-10 loss to the Cardinals last Sunday. HC Adam Gase also has seemed to lose his confidence in anything and GM Joe Douglas hasn't seemed to do anything but favor his coaching style. Rumors also said WR Jamison Crowder and others were put up on the trade block as well in an attempt to tank this season for high draft stock at Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence. Ultimately, this season continues to be a disappointment and it seems like just about everything has been wrong. At this point, 0-16 may seem within reach if things continue.

It seems to be that these teams today are heading in opposite directions: the Jets are heading down and the Dolphins are heading up. This could be a very long Sunday in Miami for the Jets if the Dolphins stay hot from their big time win in San Francisco against the 49ers last weekend. The Injury report again is something to note this week for the Jets, as Sam Darnold is listed as doubtful and most likely will not be playing again this week. In that case, QB Joe Flacco picks up his second start as a Jet. Along with Darnold, OT Mekhi Becton is also doubtful and probably won't be playing this well along with WR Breshad Perriman and four other players listed as questionable this week. With Bell being released and signed by the Chiefs this week, RB Frank Gore will pick up the start this week and split carries with Rookie and Fourth Round draft pick La'Mical Perine.

this week for the Jets
QB Joe Flacco was adjusting to his brand new offense last week, and he was 18/33 for 195 yards and a TD pass last week against the Cardinals (Courtesy ESPN.com). Although he wasn't amazing last week, he avoided interceptions and found some glimpses of hope connecting well with WR Jamison Crowder, who will be his go to weapon today. Flacco was playing super conservative last week in the first half, but once he stretched out the field and took some chances, he made some nice passes and the Jets found some hope. He even brought it back to a 17-10 game at one point before the Cardinals broke away last week. If he can take chances this week and stay smart with passes, good chances say the Jets may keep things interesting with their division rivals.

For a Dolphins preview, they are a middle of the road team in the league, but have been playing better as of recent under HC Brian Flores. Former Jets QB Ryan "Fitzmagic" Fitzpatrick has been playing well and is helping his team to victory. Some of his go to weapons to pay attention to in this offense are WR Devante Parker, TE Mike Gesicki, RB Myles Gaskin, and WR Preston Williams (who has had success playing the Jets). The Jets secondary will be in for a long day with Fitzpatrick loving to stretch the field, especially if he is hot and can throw downfield. It might be a field day for the Dolphins offense.

Defensively, the Dolphins have some key players to pay attention to, and are a middle of the road defense, but have shown signs of brilliance. They have solid LB options in Jerome Baker, Kyle Van Noy, and Shaq Lawson. The Secondary is strong for them as well featuring CB Byron Jones and S Xavien Howard. This defense is streaky but definitely will give the Jets slim offensive line and offensive players a run for their money today.

While the upside is rather low for Jets fans this week, as much as we'd all love to say we can "squish the fish," it doesn't seem likely. To me, the disappointment will continue this week. Adam Gase can scratch his head and point fingers all he wants, but at the end of the day, his cancerous coaching style has done nothing but hindered this franchise as a whole. When he is out of a job even before the season ends, you all will know why. I'll take the Dolphins to win this one pretty handily today winning 30-7.
