THIS IS NO LAUGHING MATTER

On Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium. Throughout the years, this AFC East Rivalry has produced some of the best games in the NFL. That was hardly the case today as the Jets were shutout 24-0. Yes, that’s right the Jets were shutout 24-0. Also to mention, they are now 0-6 on the season and the last winless team in the NFL.

The offense was extremely inept this afternoon. QB Joe Flacco was staring for the second straight week because Darnold was still recovering from his shoulder injury. He only completed 21 of 44 passes for 186 yards, no touchdowns, and 1 interception. In addition, the play calling by  HC Adam Gase continues to be horrific. It does not matter who your quarterback is, you need to be able to move the ball down the field efficiently and score points. This is an area in which the Jets have failed miserably so far this season. Another problem with Gase’s play calling is that he was deciding to run the ball when they were already down by 24 points. You need to score points as soon as possible, running the ball only takes time off the clock. It means giving up on your team. Now would be a very good time to continue giving some of the younger players some reps because they are the future of the team such as rookie RB La’Mical Perine who had 7 carries for 22 yards. I would rather see more of him than the ageless wonder of Frank Gore, no disrespect to him though. WR Breshad Perriman also had a decent game returning from injury with 4 receptions for 62 yards. Finally, the delay of game, false start, and holding penalties continue to make the downs unmanageable for the offense.

In terms of the defense, they too were abysmal. Throughout the early portion of the game, they allowed Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to hook up with multiple receivers and let their RB Myles Gaskin run all over them. Although they buckled down in the second half and forced 2 turnovers, they were already down 21-0. They were unable to capitalize on these turnovers. Jets CB Pierre Desir has continued to be a major disappointment and should be benched immediately. Opposing teams have been doing their homework, realizing that they need to throw to whichever receiver is being covered by Desir. He has had way too much separation between him and his receiver. All of this money he is getting paid and he is unable to cover the receivers. He is turning into another Trumaine Johnson.

Next week, the Jets will travel back home to take on the Buffalo Bills in a Week 1 rematch. Last time the Jets came out as flat as I have ever seen in a season opener. Yes, there were no preseason games but every other team is in the same boat. It was made very clear to me that day that this would be another disappointing season for the Green and White. This time around in order for the Jets to have any success, they must contain  Bills QB Josh Allen in the pocket and they must pray that Darnold is able to play and go head to head with his buddy from Wyoming. Try not to worry Jets fans...hopefully, Darnold will be back next week and he can show you why you shouldn’t Tank for Trevor.
