WHAT DO WE AS JETS FANS REALLY HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO NOW?

Last Thursday night, the New York Jets took on the Denver Broncos as a part of Thursday Night Football from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Heading into this game, both the Jets and the Broncos were 0-3 and in desperate need of a win. The Broncos ultimately prevailed in this game sending the Jets to 0-4, already a quarter of the way to a winless season. Some of the alarming include a very tough schedule ahead for the Jets and that this was a very winnable game. In addition, the Broncos were starting their third-string QB in Brett Rypien. Essentially, a third string quarterback outplayed the third overall pick in the 2018 draft in Sam Darnold. The fact that the Broncos had to travel cross country while the Jets did not is rather pathetic. Usually teams traveling from the east to west coast struggle during that week. That was not the case tonight.

In terms of the offense, while they were able to score 28 points, it was not enough to lead them to victory. Darnold had arguable his best game of the year where he had a 56-yard rush for a touchdown, completed 23 of 42 passes for 230 yards, and no interceptions. One of the main problems was the inability to score touchdowns when in the red zone. Unfortunately, settling for field goals does not win games.

The blame should not only be on HC Adam Gase but DC Gregg Williams as well. The Jets defense was completely undisciplined last night and committed penalties during the most crucial parts of the game. As a matter for fact, the Broncos got 7 first downs due to penalties and only 4 rushes for first downs. The Broncos didn’t beat the Jets, the Jets beat themselves. This loss had “Same Old Jets” written all over it.

Next week, the Jets will stay home and take on the Arizona Cardinals. The good news is that they hope to have Le’Veon Bell back and Denzel Mims looks to make his Jets debut. The bad news is that Cardinals QB Kyler Murray has an insane rushing ability and could present various problems if the defense is unable to stop him. Also, Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins must be shut down. Finally and most important, penalties need to be avoided at all costs if the Jets want to have any chance of winning. Don’t worry Jets fans...no matter how bad your team looks, it requires significant effort to go 0-16 and this team does not appear to be capable of doing that.
