Jets Vs Dolphins Preview

As the Jets come off an unsuccessful comeback against the Chargers last week in LA, they travel back home this week to take on the fighting Miami Dolphins, who very much need to keep their winning ways to stay alive in the playoff race. Today is yet another chance to play spoilers for the Jets, and QB Sam Darnold will return today as well. Being that this is a divisional home game, consider this no walk in the park for the Dolphins.

In both divisional home games this year, the Jets have been competitive in both, and definitely gave the Bills and Patriots a run for their money. Sadly, they couldn't finish out either game and lost both matchups. This is their last shot at a divisional game at home this year, which in most fan's eyes means a competitive game and a chance to win. With Sam Darnold being back in the lineup, this definitely will be a boost for the Jets offense, and the first time all season Sam Darnold will have played when all the Jets main receivers are healthy (Perriman, Mims, Crowder). Sam Darnold and Breshad Perriman are both playing in just their second game together this season. This combo could be tough to stop, and although the Dolphins secondary is solid, the Jets must test out Perriman today to try to be effective.

QB Sam Darnold back in the lineup this
week is a huge plus for the Jets
With that, the continued run game of Jets RB's La'mical Perine and Frank Gore has been improving week by week. This is something that OC Dowell Loggains knew he needed to address once he had full control of offensive playcalling instead of Dumbo Adam Gase. Being that Perine has been placed on IR with a high ankle sprain, Gore will start and Ty Johnson will be seeing more carries today instead. Gore will probably lead in the backfield today, and is coming off his best performance as a Jet last week, so he looks to continue off that.

For a quick injury report, K Sam Ficken was placed on IR this week, after missing two extra points in last week's game against the Chargers. It looks likely that Sergio Castillo will be kicking for the Jets for a majority end of this season. As mentioned, RB La'mical Perine is on IR so he is out this week, and both RT's George Fant and Chuma Edoga are listed as doubtful, so the Jets might be doing some switching around up front. The Dolphins could very well attack that side knowing the Jets are short handed there today as well to put pressure on Sam Darnold. If Darnold isn't under pressure all game, I would be surprised.

For a quick Dolphins preview, since their last meeting this year in Miami with the Jets, they've changed up their offense a bit. QB Tua Tagovailoa is now their starter instead of Ryan "Fitzmagic" Fitzpatrick. With Tua doubtful this week though, Fitzpatrick might be getting the start today, and Jets fans are very familiar with him for sure. In their backfield, their new main RB Salvon Achmed is out today, so Matt Breida will be the feature back. Last time the Jets and Dolphins played, Myles Gaskin was the starting RB for the Dolphins, but has since been placed on IR, and seems likely he won't be back this year. At WR, they have Devante Parker, Jakeem Grant, and Malcolm Perry listed as the starters, being that their other star WR Preston Williams is also on IR. Parker is a tough reciever, especially around the red zone for the Dolphins. The Jets will be in for a long one chasing him around the field.

Defensively, they're lead by captain and LB Jerome Baker. They also have a strong secondary with pro bowl CB Xavien Howard and CB Byron Jones. Up front, Emanuel Ogbah and Christian Wilkens lead a tough pass rush, along with LB's Kyle Van Noy and Shaq Lawson. Ultimately, their defense is a tough one to stop, and they've capitalized on early turnovers a lot in recent games. Sadly the only reason I know this is cause I'm stuck living with a Dolphins fan (my dad), and I get forced into watching them every week. The Jets must come with all forces ahead today and for the rest of the season if they want to win at all this year.

For the prediction, The Jets might keep things more interesting than some might think. As the Jets itch for their first win, It'll be one step closer, but not close enough. I'll take the Dolphins winning this one 21-13.

Sam Darnold to try to utilize today
