DARNOLD TAKES A BIG STEP BACK WITH DISASTOROUS PERFORMANCE VS. FISH

Last Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium. It was yet another horrendous showing as the Jets fell to 0-11 on the season. There is a lot of blame to be tossed around as to why the Jets are still winless. This extends from the coaching staff to their franchise quarterback Sam Darnold, whom the team drafted 3rd overall in 2018. He has not played like a franchise quarterback. A franchise quarterback is supposed to improve each year and it looks like Darnold has only regressed this season. In addition, he has had a really hard time staying healthy but the NFL makes no room for excuses. As the great Bill Parcells once said, “You are what your record says you are,” and right now the Jets deserve to be 0-11 and have nobody to blame but themselves.

In terms of the offense, they only managed to score 3 points. This was the third game this season in which the Jets have failed to score a touchdown. Darnold completed 16 of 27 passes for 197 yards, no touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. HC Adam Gase is supposed to be an offensive genius. Well tell me, where is this offensive genius? They are ranked dead last in total offense and put together a lackluster performance at best each week. So far, the only good week the Jets have had this year has been their bye week because they were not able to lose. On a positive note, WR Denzel Mims looks very much like the real deal and GM Joe Douglas should be given a lot of credit for drafting him this year. He will only be a force to be reckoned with in years to come. Also, OT Mekhi Becton has done a tremendous job for the Jets offensive line though it is hard to notice because the rest of the line is not living up to anywhere near their expectations.

In terms of the defense, they played a very good game. They were able to force two turnovers on back-to-back possessions in the second half. However, the offense was unable to generate anything off of these turnovers. The defense fared much better today against Fitzpatrick then they did in Week 6. Like HC Adam Gase, DC Gregg Williams is also coaching for his job and hopes to avoid being the defensive coordinator for two teams that have gone 0-16 (first was 2017 Cleveland Browns).

This week, the Jets will stay home as they will take on the Las Vegas Raiders. It does not seem likely that the Jets will win though with the way they have been playing these past 11 games. I know last year they beat the Raiders 34-3, but they were a much better team than and they themselves had something to play for. That is not the case this year. Try to be positive Jets fans...hopefully we only have five more weeks left of Gase and this absolutely miserable season, which falls in line with the rest of 2020.
