Jets Vs Titans Preview

As the Jets come into today still on the search for their first win, they come back to home field at Metlife Stadium to play hosts to Derrick Henry, Ryan Tannehill and the Tennessee Titans. In order to keep their season alive, the Jets must change their losing ways soon and bounce back in what comes as a good winning opportunity today. In the month of October, it's time for the Jets to turn a new leaf and grow into this season as time progresses.

For the injury report, The Jets will be without rookie WR Elijah Moore and WR Jeff Smith today on the offensive side, while defensive captain Marcus Maye will also be out this week as well after injuring his ankle. That gives former Jaguars S Jarrod Wilson the start today, and it definitely will be interesting to see how the Jets secondary will play without their biggest name in Marcus Maye. The Titans on the other hand are without both AJ Brown and Julio Jones today, who are the two top receivers in Ryan Tannehill's supporting cast, along with stud LB Bud Dupree. Without those pieces available, the Jets need to use that to their advantage and focus on stopping Derrick Henry, which for no team is an easy task. Brown and Jones being out help the Jets have a sole focus to worry about Derrick Henry today. He is a pure difference maker on the field, so the Jets will have their hands full with him alone.

Jets WR Corey Davis has an opportunity
to strike against his former team today
In order to get anything going for the Jets, QB Zach Wilson must be making smart decisions and not forcing passes around the field. With WR Denzel Mims active in Elijah Moore's absence and WR Jamison Crowder healthy and back in the lineup, it helps spread out the defense so Wilson can spread targets to his receivers. Not to mention former Titans WR Corey Davis now being a Jet has his chance at a revenge game in a sense since he couldn't get the big money contract he had wanted in Tennessee. It will be his opportunity to show his old team what they missed out on. I have a good feeling Wilson and Davis might have a solid connection brewing today. Secondly, costly penalties hurt as well, and the Jets continue to be undisciplined with penalties in unnecessary moments, such as the penalty to take the Jets out of field goal range in last week's 26-0 burying.

Along with all of this, continue to feed RB Michael Carter the ball for carries. This guy is a young, inexperienced NFL RB and with repetition, can improve his game more and more. The Jets continue to shy away from using him more, and I continue to scratch my head as to why that's the case. Some might say the Jets offensive line isn't good enough and that's why the Jets haven't had a consistent running game in a few years, but I still do believe there is an opportunity for this guy to shine in this league if used properly.

For the Titans preview, they come into this game at a record of 2-1 and have shown in the past few seasons the damage this team can cause on both sides of the ball. Lead under former Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill, he has flourished since leaving Miami and has had much more success with Tennessee in his career as well. Being that AJ Brown and Julio Jones both won't play today, the main WR's will be Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Josh Reynolds, and Chester Rogers. Since these guys typically don't play as much for the Titans, there isn't as much to evaluate. Rogers did catch a 6 yard TD pass last week, but being that it was his only catch of the game, he was quiet and a non-factor otherwise. Reynolds has yet to play this year for the Titans and Westbrook Ikhine only has 6 catches through 3 games. It is fair to say that today might be what they call a "Derrick Henry" day for the Titans.

Defensively speaking, the Titans are in the middle scale of NFL defenses, as they aren't bad, but aren't elite either. LB Bud Dupree being out will be a major loss for them today, but they still feature DE Denico Autry who came from the Colts last offseason and FS Kevin Byard, who has been a major piece on their defense the past few seasons. On the other side defensively, the Jets will be without Marcus Maye as mentioned, so how will Jarrod Wilson play today? The Titans are down guys too, but I still do believe Tannehill will take some chances downfield with the Jets secondary banged up also.

For today's prediction, this game I very well see as a heartbreak. The Jets will come out energetic for the first two and a half quarters, but things might go South very quickly later in the second half once Derrick Henry makes his mark. Although I don't see the Jets getting smoked 26-0 again, I do see a tough loss in this one. I'll take the Titans in this one 27-21.
