ZACH WILSON PROVES WHY HE’S SECOND OVERALL PICK WITH HUGE STATEMENT WIN VS. TITANS

On Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Tennessee Titans at MetLife Stadium. In a hard fought battle, the Jets emerged victorious in overtime 27-24 to pick up their first win of the 2021 NFL season. Yes, the Titans were without their starting wide receivers in AJ Brown and Julio Jones but the Jets were still pretty heavy underdogs in this one. This victory just might have saved the Jets season as they improve to 1-3.

In terms of the offense, QB Zach Wilson had his best game by far in the NFL. He completed 21 of 34 passes for 297 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Just like in Week 1, it was a slow start for the Jets offense as they entered the locker room at halftime trailing 9-7. A lot of that good work was done in the second half as Wilson was able to beat the Tennessee secondary by taking successful deep shots down the field for both Corey Davis and Keelan Cole. The job Wilson did helped send MetLife into a frenzy.

In terms of the defense, they really put the pressure on Titans QB Ryan Tannehill. The Jets remember him very well from his days with the Miami Dolphins. However, since leaving the then Adam Gase coached Miami Dolphins, his career has taken off with two trips to the playoffs since with the Titans. However, he was no match today for the Jets swarming defense who sacked him seven times and Quinnen Williams accounted for two of them. He is another player who has taken his game to another level in year 3 for the Jets. Even though RB Derrick Henry had a modest game, it was not enough to beat a Jets team hungry for a win. It appeared though as if the Jets were going to hold on in the 4th quarter and win 24-17 after stopping the Titans on 4th down but a pass interference penalty kept the drive alive, which would end up being a game-tying touchdown. However, the Jets defense bent but did not break. In overtime, with the Jets leading 27-24 and the Titans driving down the field with the ball, the defense held Tennessee to a 49-yard field goal attempt for former Jets kicker Randy Bullock. The kick was wide left and the Jets survived in overtime.

Next week, the Jets will travel across the pond to London to take on the Atlanta Falcons. It is the Jets first trip to London since 2015 where they beat the Miami Dolphins 27-14. This is a golden opportunity for the Jets to move into their early bye week at 2-3. If the Jets defense is able to put as much pressure on Matt Ryan as they did with Ryan Tannehill, the Jets could be sitting pretty. In addition, this should be a game where Wilson can continue to take successful deep shots down the field as Atlanta’s defense is near the bottom of the league. The Jets must prove that they are not the Same Old Jets that lay an egg after a big win in the previous week. Get excited Jets fans...Zach Wilson looks very much like the real deal. J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!
