GHOSTS OF HALLOWEEN PAST LEAD JETS TO UPSET OF THE YEAR OVER THE BENGALS

On Halloween Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Cincinnati Bengals at MetLife Stadium. Last week, the Jets were coming off an embarrassing loss to the Patriots and the Bengals were coming off a dominating performance at the Ravens. The result of this game...a stunner...the Jets 34, the Bengals 31. For starters, the Jets were without their starting quarterback in Zach Wilson, but backup QB Mike White gave the Jets and their fans much more than they could have asked for as they improved to 2-5 on the season.

In terms of the offense, they had the most success that they have had in a very long time. White completed 37 of 45 passes for a whopping 405 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions that really weren’t his fault though. White is the first Jets QB to throw for over 400 yards since Vinny Testaverde did it on Christmas Eve in 2000 at the Ravens. In addition, the offense finally scored 30+ points in a game, something the Jets were unable to do all last season. The last time the Jets scored 30+ points was November 2019 against the Raiders. Also, this was the first time since December 2016 that a backup QB has won a game for the Green and White. Finally, the Jets have not scored any points in the first quarter this season until scoring on their opening drive in this one.

In terms of the defense, while they allowed 31 points, they stepped up big when they needed to. DE Shaq Lawson came up with the lone interception Bengals QB Joe Burrow threw which would lead to the Jets go-ahead touchdown. Also, penalties were not that big of a deal for the Jets defense today as they played a very disciplined game for the most part.

Also, funny that the go-ahead touchdown scored by the Jets was by former Bengals TE Tyler Kroft. There is no doubt that the Ghosts of Halloween Past haunted the Bengals and gave the Jets one of their most impressive victories in recent memory.

This Thursday night, the Jets will travel to Indianapolis to take on the streaky Indianapolis Colts. As Jets fans, we can only hope that they do not lay an egg like they normally do after a huge victory. If the Jets play anything like they did on Sunday, they should be in a good position to win. An important question Jets fans...is Mike White the long-lost franchise quarterback? J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!
