WHITE DOES MORE THAN FALL BACK TO EARTH WITH DISASTER AGAINST RIVAL BILLS

Last Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium for their first meeting of the season. It was yet another ugly game for Gang Green as they lost 45-17 and fell to 2-7 on the season, which is bad enough for last place in the AFC East. Nothing seemed to go right for the Jets while everything seemed to go right for the Bills, who were coming off a disappointing 9-6 loss to the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jets were the Bills personal punching bag this chilly mid-November afternoon.

In terms of the offense, Mike White reminded all of Jets nation why he wasn’t the starting quarterback in Week 1 of this season. He completed 24 of 44 passes for 251 yards, no touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. If the Jets are wise and the second overall pick in Zach Wilson is ready to start this week (UPDATE: JOE FLACCO STARTING), he should play by any means necessary. It is time for him to develop with his team likely missing the playoffs for the 11th straight season. The worst part was the fact that the Bills were down one of their starting LB's in Tremaine Edmunds and yet the Jets offense could not capitalize on that. In addition, WR Corey Davis has been everything but a #1 receiver for the Green and White. He has dropped so many crucial catches, but none worse than fumbling the ball at the Bills 29-yard line just before halftime, which cost the Jets at least 3 points. That was really the turning point in this ballgame.

In terms of the defense, they continue to mightily disappoint. For the second straight week, they have allowed 45 points by their opponents. HC Robert Saleh is supposed to be this defensive guru yet his defense is now one of the worst in the league. However, it must be noted that he is a rookie head coach with the youngest team in the NFL and that so far, they already have the same number of wins they had all of last year. This still does not cover for the excuse that the defense has not been playing up to its ability level except for third-year player Quinnen Williams, who had yet another sack today.

This week, the Jets will stay home to take on their longtime rival Miami Dolphins for the first time this season. Like the Jets, the Dolphins have struggled mightily this season and this could be a golden opportunity for Wilson to get back under center against a weaker opponent. With the rest of the schedule the Jets have, there are a few more winnable games on there and that would be all any Jets fan could hope for along with the development of Zach Wilson for hopefully a brighter future. Don’t worry Jets fans...it looks like with Wilson’s injury, he has had time to watch and learn from his mistakes and he can hopefully apply what he learned out on the field when he returns.
