JETS FALL TO 0-12 ALL TIME VS. EAGLES IN A GAME OF WHAT COULD’VE BEEN

Last Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium. The Jets ended up losing the game 33-18 and falling to 3-9 on the season. This is the sixth straight season that the Jets will have a losing record and most likely the 11th straight season without making the playoffs, which is the longest drought in the NFL. What is also sad is that the Jets lost to Eagles backup QB Gardner Minshew and made him look like an elite quarterback this chilly December afternoon at the Meadowlands.

In terms of the offense, rookie QB Zach Wilson took a major step forward, which made Jets fans believe that he could very well be the one to end the Super Bowl drought someday. He completed 23 of 38 passes for 226 yards, 2 passing touchdowns, 1 rushing touchdown, and 1 interception. In all of Wilson’s previous starts, he and the offense have failed to generate a rhythm early in games but that was not the case today as they would score touchdowns on their first three possessions. In addition, fellow rookie WR Elijah Moore continues to make the case for one of the best draft picks by the Jets in nearly a decade. Unfortunately, they would never score again after that though. To make matters worse, newly signed K Alex Kessman missed two extra-points after the Jets cut K Matt Amendola earlier in the week. The Jets are going to need a consistent kicker moving forward. (UPDATE: Signed Eddie Piñero) It is really quite sad though that despite Wilson playing the best game of his career thus far, that the Jets could not find a way to win.

In terms of the defense, they were a major disappointment this week. They allowed the Eagles to score points on all but their final possession of the game. This is a recipe for failure. In addition, the costly penalties and LB CJ Mosley jumping offsides did not help either. While the officiating crew certainly was not in the Jets favor last Sunday, it still does not change the fact that their defense gave up 33 points and remains well on track to be the worst defense in the NFL this season.

This week, the Jets will stay home to take on the New Orleans Saints. Last week on Thursday Night Football, the Saints were embarrassed by the Dallas Cowboys so this could be viewed as a very winnable game for the Jets, especially if superstar RB Alvin Kamara does not suit up. The only three goals left for the Jets this season are to make sure Zach Wilson continues to develop, improve greatly on defense, and find a competent kicker that can kick the ball through the uprights. Try not to feel too bad Jets fans...Wilson played well and Saleh will likely figure out how to fix his defense
