JETS PUT IT ALL TOGETHER TO GET FIRST ROAD WIN OF THE SEASON

Last Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium. The Jets won the game 21-14. After losing their last 3 games, the Jets were able to correct their ailments from the previous weeks and come together to get a much-needed confidence booster moving forward. Right now, the Jets have more wins than they had all last season, so improvement has already been shown with this new regime. In addition, this was rookie QB Zach Wilson’s first game back from the knee injury he suffered during the Week 7 matchup against the Patriots.

In terms of the offense, they did just enough to win this game. Wilson completed 14 of 24 passes for 145 yards, 1 rushing touchdown, and 1 interception. It was really a tale of two halves for Wilson though as a lot of his throws in the first half were rushed and were nowhere near the vicinity of his receivers. However, he really settled down and led the Jets on two time-consuming drives that ended in touchdowns later in the game. First year Jets RB Austin Walter saw himself in the end zone in his debut with Gang Green with a rushing Touchdown, so congrats from the Jets Boys for his first TD in Green and White. In addition, the rushing touchdown scored by Wilson was the first of his young Jets career, so we also congratulate our young QB on that stat as well. It was also good to see him developing some chemistry with rookie WR Elijiah Moore as it looks like we will be calling their names for years to come.

In terms of defense, this was the best game of the year for them. The 14 points allowed by them was a season low. While they held the Dolphins to only 24 points the week before, it was not enough for them to win as the offense was only able to generate 17 points. The point being that prior to the week before, the defense has given up at least 30 points in the 4 games prior to that and the team was 1-3 during that stretch. DE John Franklin Myers had a huge redemption game after potentially costing the Jets a win last week with a costly roughing the passer penalty. Also, Quinnen Williams in his third year just continues to get better and better. Let’s not forget the effort by the defense was without S Marcus Maye or Lamarcus Joyner (two veteran players that will only make the Jets defense that much better when they are fully healthy next year).

This weekend, the Jets will return home to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. If the Jets want to start a winning streak, they will need to play much better than they did today. More importantly, the offense will need to be better. Even the defense could play better as they allowed the Texans today to score touchdowns on two third and long plays. If they allow that next week, it could be a long day. The Eagles are still in the mix for a playoff spot while the Texans are near the bottom of the league. Had the Jets lost today, any hope that Jets fans had would've vanished. Get excited Jets fans...it looks like Wilson learned a thing or two and hopefully the continued reps this season make him that much better...J-E-T- S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!
