JETS STATEMENT WIN IS FIRST DIVISIONAL GAME VICTORY IN 3 YEARS

On Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium. The Dolphins entered this game without their starting quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa and were starting Teddy Bridgewater. However, on the first play of scrimmage for Miami, Bridgewater was drilled in the end zone by stud rookie Jets CB “Sauce” Gardner and would not return to the game. This would be called a safety due to intentional grounding in the end zone. The Dolphins were then forced to turn to rookie quarterback Skylar Thompson who was never really able to get anything going. This led to the Jets blowing out the Dolphins 40-17.

The Jets had their first win over a division rival since December 29, 2019, against the Bills' backups. In many ways, this game was a statement win for the Green and White as they have had their fair share of struggles with the Dolphins over the years. At one time, this was considered one of the greatest rivalries in sports. Still in this rivalry, there are often many visiting fans in the stands. Over the past few years, the Dolphins fans have often invaded MetLife Stadium and been very obnoxious after their team usually won. Luckily, that was not the case today and hopefully, this win puts the rest of the league on notice that the Jets are here to compete this season.

In terms of the offense, the Jets primarily stuck with running the football. This in turn led to two rushing touchdowns for second year RB Michael Carter and rookie RB Breece Hall scoring one of his own. The two backs rushed for over 100 yards and Hall had 100 receiving yards as well. QB Zach Wilson, in his second game back from knee surgery, was very smart with the football and had some nice throws throughout this one. He completed 14 of 21 passes for 210 yards, a rushing touchdown, and no interceptions. Being smart with the football, not turning it over, and running the ball are keys to a winning streak in the NFL. The Jets have now won 2 games in a row for the first time since Weeks 15-16 of the 2020 season. At this time, the Jets are now 3-2 on the season and over .500 for the first time this late in the season since Week 5 of the 2017 season.

In terms of the defense, they continue to feed off of the energy of their head coach Robert Saleh. CB “Sauce” Gardener recorded his first career interception in the NFL. Also, DT Quinnen Williams appears to just get better and better every game he plays as he had a fumble recovery today and recorded 2 sacks on the day for the third time in his career. However, 3 pass interference calls occurred in today’s game that were very questionable. This could’ve seriously hurt the Jets but it did not.

Next week, the Jets will travel to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers. This is going to be an especially tough matchup for Gang Green being that the Packers lost to the Giants 27-22 in London over the weekend. However, if the Jets turn in their best performance of the season next week and the defense limits the pass interference calls, they will have a chance. Get excited Jets fans…all of this young talent looks like the real deal and Zach Wilson looks like a proven leader as well. J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!
