Jets Vs Patriots Preview

After a big win against the Broncos last week, the Jets return home to play hosts to the struggling New England Patriots. Coming into this week, the Jets are now down star rookie RB Breece Hall and OT Alijah Vera Tucker for the rest of the season, so there are some accommodations that will have to be made offensively. What can the Jets do to pick up their 5th straight win in a big rivalry game at Metlife?

For today's injury report, starting with the Patriots, OL David Andrews is out with a concussion, while WR Nelson Agholor, S Kyle Dugger, and 5 others are listed as questionable. I would anticipate all 7 players listed as questionable will be good to play this week. For the Jets, WR Corey Davis is out with a knee injury that took him out of last week's game in Denver, along with DE Jermaine Johnson, who is making progress towards a return but will be held out again this weekend. OT Duane Brown is listed as questionable but should be good to play this week.

The Patriots could come with a 1-2 punch
of Mac Jones (Right) and Bailey Zappe (Left)

For a Patriots preview, it starts with the struggles they've had so far this year, where their defense has been keeping them in games, while the offense has struggled without QB Mac Jones this year with an injury. Despite being pulled out of Monday Night Football last week, Jones will start today, but fans should anticipate the other Patriots QB to potentially play a bit as well. That is rookie QB Bailey Zappe. Patriots HC Bill Belichick will more than likely use both guys a bit depending on the offensive situation. In the backfield, RB Rhamondre Stevenson will carry the load and should be a heavily used target on offense, since he can catch well out of the backfield and be the main down back as well.

At WR, Jakobi Myers and Devante Parker are the two main receivers and more than likely will be used in a limited capacity with how the Jets' defense has been playing. At TE, Hunter Henry will be a heavily used target as well for this Patriots' offense, and the Jets must find different ways to keep coverage on him at all times.

Jets WR Elijah Moore returns to action today after
sitting out in last week's win against the Broncos
Defensively, this team is up and down. They can either look like the Super Bowl Patriots' defense or just beat themselves. Up front, a lot of the pressure comes from DE's Deatrich Wise Jr and Lawrence Guy and LB Matthew Judon, who leads the NFL in sacks with 8.5 sacks. In the secondary, CB Jalen Mills is the main guy, along with veteran S Devin McCourty. Although exposable, they will eat the Jets alive for mistakes with 155 points off turnovers this year.

For the Jets, it will be the debut of RB James Robinson, who was traded for last week with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the return of WR Elijah Moore after his trade request. With this being set, the Jets must try to implement both of these guys into the offense today in order to see success.

For today's prediction, the Jets continue to be strong this year, while the Patriots have had their struggles offensively. With the game also being at Metlife as well, the cards do turn in the Jets' favor here. I will take the Jets winning this one by a score of 24-20 in a close competitive divisional game.
