JETS OFFENSE GOES AWOL IN UGLY SEASON SWEEP BY PATRIOTS

Last Sunday, the New York Jets took on their hated rivals, the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium for a rematch of their Week 8 matchup at the Meadowlands. The Jets were hoping to salvage a season split with New England but unfortunately got swept with a 10-3 loss. Gang Green has now lost 14 straight games to the Patriots and will likely have to wait until next year to stop that streak.

In terms of the offense, they were just brutal. QB Zach Wilson only completed 9 of 22 passes for only 75 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions. Even though Wilson was not a source of turnovers like he was in the Week 8 matchup, he missed a lot of easy throws that a second year quarterback should make and completed well under 50% of his pass attempts. What is most concerning about Wilson was that he lacked accountability after this loss by saying that he did not feel that he let his defense down. This has led to Wilson being benched and demoted to inactive for this week’s game.

In terms of the defense, they had their best game of the season but it was to no avail as the offense could only score a meager 3 points. A lot of credit has to be given to the defense because if these were the old-fashioned Patriots the Jets were playing, this game would’ve been a 40-3 blowout.

Technically speaking though, this loss falls on the special teams by allowing the Patriots to return a punt for the go-ahead touchdown with 5 seconds remaining in regulation. Throughout this season, the Jets special teams have been incredible and really for the past few seasons, but that was not the case last Sunday. It does not help matters though that the refs missed a clear illegal block in the back against the Patriots on that punt return, which would have called it back and likely sent the game into overtime.

This Sunday, the Jets will host the Chicago Bears at MetLife Stadium. This was supposed to be a matchup of the two second year quarterbacks in Zach Wilson and Justin Fields but now it looks like it will be Mike White for the Jets and Trevor Siemian for the Bears. If the Jets want to stay in the thick of things and play meaningful games in December, this is a game they have to have at home against a 3-8 Bears team with nothing left to play for. Don’t worry Jets fans…you likely will not have to see the Patriots again this season.
