Jets Vs Vikings Preview

After picking up a much-needed win last week against the Chicago Bears, the Jets hit the road once again as they travel up north to Minneapolis to play against one of the most dynamic offenses in all of football this year in the Minnesota Vikings. Jets QB Mike White had a solid performance in last week's win throwing for 315 yards along with 3 TD passes, but the biggest stat of all would be that he didn't throw any INTs in the win. With the Vikings being a bit of a weaker secondary team in the league, this should be another good opportunity for Mike White to excel in his second start of the 2022 season.

For today's injury report, starting with the Vikings, the most notable injury for them comes from OT Christian Darrisaw, who has been battling a concussion and still won't be good to go this week. TE Ben Ellefson is out today with a groin injury and DT Ross Blacklock is listed as questionable with an illness. For the Jets, S Ashtyn Davis is out today with a hamstring injury, while CB Cedric Ogbuehi and RB Michael Carter are both listed as doubtful with a groin/illness and an ankle injury respectively. With Michael Carter more than likely not playing, RB James Robinson has been activated again and will be splitting carries with RB Zonovan "Bam" Knight after his good showing last week against the Bears along with RB Ty Johnson. OT Duane Brown is listed as questionable with a shoulder injury, but it would be safe to assume he will play.

play similarly today against the Vikings
For today's preview of the Vikings, starting on the offensive side, they have proven to be one of the most dynamic offenses in the league. With veteran QB Kirk Cousins under center, they feature some quality offensive pieces such as RB Dalvin Cook and WR Justin Jefferson who continues to thrive in his time in the NFL. Jefferson is the make-or-break with this offense, as the two losses for the Vikings this year both came when he was held to under 100 yards receiving. The other notable WR to pay attention to is Adam Thielen, who although a bit older now, can still be a big playmaker and has been a big playmaker for the Vikings since 2014. Both Thielen and Jefferson could give Jets CBs DJ Reed and Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner a difficult test, but in particular, the matchup between "Sauce" and Jefferson could an intriguing and interesting one. While "Sauce" has contained many solid recievers in his rookie year, this debatably could be his most difficult test of all the 2022 season. That matchup will make a big difference in today's outcome. Along with these weapons, TE TJ Hockenson has become a reliable red zone target and stretch field option for Kirk Cousins and this offense as well, and they might resort to passing his way more barring that Jefferson is being covered well.

Defensively speaking, while the Vikings have been strong up front, their secondary is aging and has had its struggles. Up front, former Giants DE Dalvin Tomlinson and DT Harrison Phillips will look to put pressure on Mike White throughout today's game. Along with their power up front, their biggest strength would come at the LB positions, where they have Danielle Hunter, Eric Kendricks, Jordan Hicks, and Za'Darius Smith, who all are proven to put pressure on QBs and could be a nightmare stopping the Jets depleted run game as well. In the secondary, while they have two notable veterans in CB Patrick Peterson and S Harrison Smith, CB Chandon Sullivan and S Camryn Bynum have struggled and allowed lots of WRs to find soft spots and holes deep downfield. This will be an opportunity for the Jets to expose that space and be able to find WRs like Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore downfield. It should be interesting how the Vikings' defense ends up playing out.

In order for the Jets to win today, they MUST contain Justin Jefferson. This man has single-handedly kept the Vikings in games this season, like how he made that insane one-handed catch in Buffalo against the Bills on a key fourth down late in the fourth quarter. If the Jets can force this offense to turn the ball over, this game is within reach without a doubt. Jets QB Mike White must continue to be efficient just as he was last Sunday in today's pivotal December matchup. If the Jets secondary continues to play at the rate they have been this season, it could be a successful trip to Minneapolis today.

For today's prediction, without a doubt, I could see this being one of the most competitive games this season for the Jets, and I do believe it will come down to the wire. However, I believe those "Fourth Quarter Jets" will come to play today and the Jets will win a key game on the road. I'll take the Jets in a very competitive game today winning this one by a score of 28-21.
